Well if you wanted to see what brexit has done to all incoming commercial traffic . This is Calais port now - queuing for miles outside the port to get in . Hours waiting now . I hate this shit
Lots of trucks pushing in . It’s going to get interesting
As far as the eye can see .. and as far behind me - trucks and vans . GVMS disaster . And it’s only January
Let’s get a few trolls on this to see them argue about it and claim nothing is wrong .
Sunlit uplands eh
The illuminated signs in the distance is where you either get told your boarding or not .. GVMS nightmare
I wonder how long the queue is behind me now ... I’m almost there . Well almost as in a hour or two away . Then into the lanes for a ferry then the fun begins in the U.K.
This journey hasn’t ended yet - as of 01/01/22 you have a good chance of being sent to customs U.K. side to be inspected by people who don’t really have a clue what they are doing ..
There’s also a fair few trucks being turned away at check in and heading back out the port ....
See all those truck and vans . They have the wrong paperwork so won’t be allowed anywhere
Let me put today into perspective . I was lucky as my paperwork was ok . The ones with no paperwork or incorrect paperwork may have to go back to where they came from to get the correct paperwork. Doing it properly=Calais-dover about 10 hours transit time .

Five days to go until importing into the U.K. becomes a nightmare. Then there is may when all vans need an ops licence and transport manager to drive on the continent. I think from here there will be a massive drop off of drivers/ owner drivers small companies. Sunlit uplands
The cost of transport by vans up to 3500kgs is going to significantly increase . Reg numbers must match the import documents - and you have to specify your route into the U.K. . Co-loading is as good as dead . It’s suddenly become a bit more specialised now .
It benefits no one . Prior to brexit - you could have ten jobs on your van , reducing costs to customers. Whilst increasing your profitability per run. That’s gone. Now it’s one job out and one job in . Can’t risk one job if another has incorrect paperwork = stuck in customs
Just a heads up - expect a potentially massive downturn in goods coming to the U.K. - or out - seems the rules have changed and drivers now need a PCR test to enter DE .
Isn’t this a result of crazily high figures daily for months now with no face masks ? If this also includes drivers transiting - I suspect it is. -no one will come here
From 01/01/22 full customs clearance becomes reality- that means up to 10,000 trucks a day in and out of Calais / folkestone being subject to full clearance. That means having to stop and collect customs papers and surrender docs upon entry. 1/2
Sevington inland border facility has the capacity for 475 trucks . If 10% of trucks have to stop on their way IN to clear customs the entire place would be inundated within hours . And that doesn’t include the outbound commercial traffic trying to collect their paperwork
Put it this way- if the U.K. used the green/ orange traffic light system for trucks on inbound freight from the EU-U.K. and only 10% of trucks get called in That’s TWICE the capacity of the largest inland border clearance facility closest to the point of entry from the EU
Want to stump leavers who claim to think they are experts on exports ? Want to put a series of questions to them that’s GUARANTEED not to get a reply ? I’ll post a few below .. guaranteed to end an argument ( and from direct experience .... 👇
It’s 5PM on a Friday night and a bank holiday looms- you need to get out an exhibition and exhibits ( screens / machines / Merchandise )to berlin by Saturday pm for an exhibition on Sunday , but have no paperwork . What do you do ?
You are a supplier for a car plant making components for an airbag - and based in spain . It’s mega urgent and needs to be transported ASAP for delivery within 24 hours . But your agent isn’t open until the morning . What do you do ?
I know some have seen my direct experience with someone under my van trying to get to the U.K. but here it is again :
Last year I got the train across to Calais . It was late so I decided to stop at the ibis in Calais .
The next morning I woke up had my breakfast walked out to the carpark, got in the van and headed south towards paris
On the a16 after about 5 miles I heard a faint banging , thinking nothing of it I carried on - but the banging got louder and louder and more frequent
After about 20 miles I was quite worried thinking is someone in the back ??! But the van had security locks and it was impossible to get in - so I carried on . The weather was dreadful - it was dark and cold , I was on the motorway with trucks behind me .
Imagine being a driver or a company transporting goods from the EU to the U.K. and being held solely responsible for the goods on board..and responsible for any duties or vat on those goods . Would you risk carrying them ? I wouldn’t .. brexit 01/01/22 it’s coming #Brexit
Imagine being an EU haulier with 40 pallets of mixed consignments .. a few incorrect declarations and that’s it your stuffed . Your liable for any monies due . Goods and vehicle don’t leave .
Imagine if your carrying a high value consignment for a customer you haven’t worked for before .. and it’s been incorrectly declared . Bang - your liable . But you haven’t played any part in the customs process . How on earth should you know the correct value . It’s bonkers
