Not one election in last 7 years has been fought on development, jobs, economy, education or any public interest issue. Every election has most irrelevant narratives of religion, caste, regional identities, fake, propped up incidents which have no benefits for the common public/1
The entire purpose of election is similar to that as a final exam for a student or a job interview. Now imagine the disaster if we were evaluating students or employees not based on their aptitude, vision but on irrelevant aspects. /2
With media, rich, powerful lobby in cohorts, we are being made to elect national, state Governments on most irrelevant and redundant issues to run this nation. This is serving only few people in power & their cronies but is a recipe for disaster for our country & citizens./3
Though politicians are at the helm of crafting huge shift in focus of elections, parameters of evaluation & aptitude, biggest blame rests with mainstream media who have completely abdicated their responsibilities to hold people in power accountable or speak truth to power/4
Thanks to media propping up anyone that suits their business interests, anyone with zero credentials, aptitude, experience can get elected to highest echelons of power based only on religious, caste, regional identities or even by simply mouthing hate, bigotry, divisiveness./5
We lost a huge chunk of our demographic, economic edge thanks to such shift in national focus. Instead of youth creating future, many are being used to spread misinformation, hate to help keep the focus away from real public interest issues to manipulate electoral results./6
Media endorsing, propagating such irrelevant public discourse is normalising ignorance of public & national interests issues in electoral process and is one of the biggest contributors to this disaster of many people with zero aptitude, terrible performances getting elected./7
Religion, caste, regional identities always played a role in elections but largely elections were fought on issues of public interest, policies, political vision & aptitude, performance track record of candidates. Today, none of that gets any media attention & it is by design./8
Irrelevant public narrative, discourse around elections needs to stop but the only way it can be done is if public starts seeking accountability not just from politicians but also from journalists, media house, their owners. They should not be allowed to misuse their power. /end

#Thread I saw one of the highly educated RW supporters gloat how his fav politician has started Uttarakhand elections campaign with a bang by doing miscellaneous religious rituals & how their opponents are late to collect such political, electoral brownie points. /1
Few years back, we were on the brink of a united civil society finally holding politicians accountable and making issues of public interests paramount. Today, politicians have not only divided civil society but have made cheerleaders of even educated or thinking people. /2
Now we're measuring politicians not by work but by performances at religious rituals. Issues of Governance, economy, jobs, inflation, national security have been long forgotten by masses. Truly, religion is the opium of the masses and nationalism is refuge of the scoundrels./3
When I lost some of my friends to hate spewing RW, I asked, are they okay to loose friends? Their answer often was - it is okay, we are doing it for the betterment, development, progress & Hindu pride. I knew then that they have been radicalised, manipulated by lies, deceit 1/
They had refused to see RW lies then & many still do not but ask yourself this what have you gained in last 7 years? My conservative guess is Zero, Zilch. What have you lost? Friends, respect, love, relations but more importantly, what the nation has lost is irreplaceable. 2/
How has our nation become better when gloriously diverse yet united India has been divided in just 7 years for the first time post independence on the lines of religion, caste, region, language and even food habits and clothes they wear. Is this what you'll call betterment? 3/
If the Govt has any concern for Indians, all they need is to use some common sense. Here are some common sense suggestions that Govts in India can do to ease citizens suffering and control #COVIDSecondWave: 1. Ban all religious gatherings, election rallies with immediate effect.
2. Cancel all lofty expenses like central vista renovation, statues, purchases of luxury for ministers, etc & use the funds to give direct cash to poor, needy, unemployed & distressed and small micro businesses on the lines of Covid relief given by US Gov. #COVIDSecondWave
3. Create a special task force independent of Govt control made up of Indian and international experts in Disaster management, healthcare & science. Let them draw up a immediate, short term, long term recovery & containment plans for Govts to implement. #COVIDSecondWave
Parties, politicians of all hues have their share of negatives but I see one big difference in the supporters of liberal, secular, progressive - Many question, challenge, protest against most of the negatives of their own side. At times, harming their own electoral chances. 1/
RW supporters, in contrast, offer blind unquestioning subservience. Shockingly, even those who clearly possess critical thinking & analytical skills. They do not just celebrate but almost demand lack of checks & balances in the system, especially while dealing with dissent. 2/
In my opinion, it is the behaviour of RW supporters, worldwide that is making RW politics dangerous, combative & anti democratic norms. Any party or politician who is offered such unchecked power, will undoubtedly abuse it in all the ways possible. 3/
#DinsTonight Wazir-e-Hindustan is making Saag 🥬 🍖 Meat tonight. Stage 1: fry thinly sliced onions, bay leaf and marinated meat (salt, chillies, garam masala, cumin & coriander powder, ginger garlic paste, fresh lemon juice) #FoodieTwitter@TheSlowFireChef
#DinsTonight cooking Saag meat 🥬 🍖 Stage 2: add tomato 🍅 purée and continue frying till oil separates. Don’t forget to cover the lid during each step to use the steam & heat generated to cook the meat on slow fire. No pressure cooker. #FoodieTwitter@TheSlowFireChef
#DinsTonight Cooking Saag Meat 🥬 🍖 Stage 3: boil spinach Saag with some garlic & purée it. Then add it to the meat and cook it on slow fire till nicely fried. Don’t lose patience at this stage. Well done Saag is key. #FoodieTwitter@TheSlowFireChef
What is nepotism but essentially monopolising of opportunities, agree? Well, look around you & let me know which sector is not already monopolised by 2-3 players. How is this any different as far as the impact goes on other players in the ecosystem? How come no one mentions it?
It is great that we are discussing nepotism but why the focus is so small? Why only limited to Bollywood? Is this because Bollywood is a soft target or is it because this is a planned take down or attack on some individuals instead of really addressing of issue? Real objectives?
Compare the number of people being impacted by nepotism in Bollywood, say as against any other full fledged manufacturing/services sector. What's the data? Do you know till recently, Bollywood was not even officially conferred with Industry status? Meaning, no Govt support.
