Back in 2014 I had this idea to make orange #bitcoin umbrellas that would stand out in a sea of black ones. I needed an order of 600 for the first run and created 600 UMBRELLA for anyone else who wanted to join in the pre-order.

Counterparty $XCP was a project I was watching because it was adding more functionality to #bitcoin when everyone else was creating altcoins or drawing napkin sketches then making pre-Etherium ICOs.
Since I didn't have the startup funds to create a company solely around #bitcoin umbrellas I minted a token that represented a right-to-claim voucher for a physical umbrella. The price of the UMBRELLA token equalled 1/600th of the cost of the initial batch order.
I posted this opportunity on the only social platform #bitcoin had at the time (san IRC), our bittersweet Bitcointalk forum.

Counterparty didn't have a dispenser mechanism att but a startup named vennd.io made a "vending machine". The vending machine would accept $BTC in exchange for an UMBRELLA token.
A user could vend as many as wanted.

I also participated in the 2014 @BTC_BlackFriday event with the #bitcoin UMBRELLA pre-sale offer. This event was young att [year 2] but had big turnout - a time to buy shit with $BTC π

Still, nobody ordered, and I was left with a good idea (to me) and 600 UMBRELLA tokens created to represent 1:1 600 orange #Bitcoin logo physical umbrellas.
Nobody was hurt in the minting of the tokens. They would always reside on the Bitcoin chain. @CoinMarketCap was clueless.

Time goes on. Counterparty devs moved on but a small batch of artists still were minting art onto #bitcoin with the tech they created. Small communities by today's standards, but enough interest to make a dev named @jdogresorg want to keep building usability on top of Bitcoin π€
2021 rolls around and vintage #Bitcoin NFTs are seeing a renaissance. True OG danks that pre-date the Etherium ICO.

Like a fine Swiss watch, #bitcoin never shuts down. The tokens I minted in 2014 were still there. A rush of excitement filled me that pushed out all the emptiness altcoins, ICOs, defi, and web3 propaganda #fakenews pumps out.

Being 2021, 7 years older, the idea of pre-ordering 600 umbrellas was the last thing on my mind. I still had the tokens & knew a crypto artist @nftshart who had a good eye for #bitcoin art.

We went over some ideas and I commissioned the piece. This was around the beginning of summer 2021. I saw shit art everywhere besides on #bitcoin like #ethrocks, generative #pfp, etc and wanted something bitcoin art collectors may find cool.
After summer @nftshart delivered an absolute banger πΌπ₯

About a month passed from adding the new artwork to UMBRELLA. Nearly the same week I started to set up dispensers for distributing the #bitcoin artwork to collectors the grandaddy of all Counterparty tokens, TEST, began pounding its chest as Royal OG pedigree. Rightfully so!
TEST started it all for tokens built on #Bitcoin I don't even think $XCP was harmed in the creation of TEST.
I also didn't know there was a thing called NFT archeology. But, as soon as UMBRELLA finally was put into the hands of others, the historic importance came to light.

This story has made me change my time preference on creating physical #bitcoin umbrellas. I'm commissioning 300* limited edition umbrellas that I'll send to each UMBRELLA holder this year!
