I find it hard to believe that the Police Officers on duty did not seek an early steer from Senior officers.

That being so, why did not someone such as Dick go to the PM & PPS and have a tactful word early on eg “You really cannot do this as we would, in fairness, be forced to intervene to uphold the laws you passed even handedly”

You don’t dilly dally & leave it to a non-police investigator (and certainly not one who has previously expressed approval for double deleting evidence re FOIs) unless you want the evidence to disappear
