Some lines should be drawn, but as a whole, as girl gamers we can't get butthurt every time a guy talks some smack. Roasting is a big part of any competitive space. We're gonna get gatekeeped out of gaming if we can't hang

Just dish it back or let it go, it ain't always misogyny
Guys usually talk to each other A LOT worse than they talk to us. They will literally beat the crap out of each other then be friends 5 minutes later. Most times it ain't that deep.

Note: this isn't about anyone specifically and I'm obviously not referring to extremes
And I'm lumping myself in this too because I've been too sensitive before too.

I just can't help but notice that the gaming community is becoming less and less fun by the minute when everybody is offended all the time.
I remember in my PMS Clan days back in 2009 playing Halo, dudes would tell us to get in the kitchen or whatever and we'd tell them to get in the garage then out K/D them. We didn't cry about it.

The good days.
And for the record I think most girl gamers hang really well in competitive spaces and have no issue receiving and dishing out smack talk, but the media especially wants to make us into victims so it can certainly appear that most girl gamers are soft when on average we aren't.
One last thing (maybe). Banter isn't exclusive to just women and kitchen jokes, it's not a one sided thing. How many times do people jump to the small penis jokes? ALL THE TIME. Dish it, take it, or mute it.

Just to clarify, I'm not referring to gay men when I share this. Some of my besties are fem gay men 💖
For the replies blatantly miscontruing everything and trying to start a fight, I'm not taking that bait and arguing with you about it. You're gonna have to find someone else for that.

I'm perfectly ok with some things not being inclusive. Not everything has to be for everyone. I'm not mad about things that aren't made with me/ my taste in mind. That's ok, because some other things are.

It feels weird to me that this is a hot take. Maybe it's not though 🤷‍♀️
I don't want this taken out of context, I do like some inclusive things, & in entertainment like gaming I do love to see a variety

But if something is created that isn't my style (eg: too hard/easy, no female characters, etc) I can either see if I like it or play something else
I just feel like a lot of creativity is lost when everything is expected to be inclusive these days. Developers can't even make challenging games without backlash for not making an easy mode, and we see existing franchises completely changed because of it in general

Often times when the original Lara Croft comes up in discussion, people are quick to say that she was created for the "male gaze." I'm making this thread to clear the air on this misunderstanding, which mostly comes from those who didn't play the games tbh 1/?
When Tomb Raider was created, women lead characters were almost non existent. The very idea of making the main protagonist a woman was a risk. At the time, we had Metroid with Samus as the lead, but what made her "safe" was that until the end, the player thought she was a man
With that said, Core Design didn't care about the risk and created a woman lead character anyway. Her proportions were exaggerated, not in an objectified manner, but to see even on blocky PSOne graphics that the main character was a WOMAN and they were PROUD of that
