17 Tenets of the Historical NFTs Thesis 🧵
Tenet I: There is no limit to the supply of NFTs that will emerge in the future, but there is an iron-clad hard cap on the scarcity of those in the past.

This @WRabbit1111 quote so perfectly encapsulates why historical NFTs make for such a good store of value.
Tenet II: Historical NFTs are fad-proof.

Because historical NFTs have an underlying historical value to collectors they become timeless. Whether it be 1 year, 10 years, or 100 years from now, collectors will still covet them for this intrinsic value.
Tenet III: Imagine ignoring historical NFTs to mint the flavor of the week.

This is @mattmedved’s commentary on the choice that the majority of the NFT space has made to chase short-term gains in the more flashy minting and flipping culture while ignoring how we got here.
Tenet IV: Composability and interoperability lend themselves to future utility.

When you buy a historical NFT you are buying all future value that will be built on top of it. Developers and brands will take the earliest NFTs and breathe new life into them.
Tenet V: The best way to invest in the future is to invest in the past.

Even the best early-stage capital allocators in the world have a 1% hit rate. Skip the guessing game and invest in the past. The more successful NFTs become the more valuable the very first ones are.
Tenet VI: We invest in stories.

Humans have told stories since the beginning of time. The more compelling a story is the faster it will spread from one human to the next. Historical NFTs tend to have really powerful stories that evoke an emotional response.
Tenet VII: Digital assets for a digital age

This is another staple @WRabbit1111 quote. Upon the advent of the internet, humanity embarked on a century-long journey into the metaverse. The very first digital assets will command unimaginable value at the end of this journey.
Tenet VIII: Many historical NFTs will become priceless.

NFT Archaeologist @g0barry has posed the question: “What happens when there are 100 of a historically significant NFTs and more than 100 crypto billionaires that want one?”
Tenet IX: We didn’t just wake up one day and make Fidenzas.

Historical NFTs laid the foundation on which every NFT you see today built. Through a decade-long process of experimentation, early pioneers led us to where we are today. Owning a historical NFT honors them.
Tenet X: Historical NFTs won’t rug you.

Historical NFTs tend to be grassroots movements often with community members stepping up to lead in the absence of a founder. There is no influencer, celebrity, or marketing firm with a get rich quick scheme behind them.
Tenet XI: A collector’s mentality is the correct mentality.

Humans love collecting things. Whether you collected Pokemon cards as a kid or wine as an adult, most people love collecting. It’s part of human nature and historical NFTs are the perfect fix. Just ask @garyvee!
Tenet XII: NFT Archaeology is the 21st century’s gold rush.

Instead of panning for rare earth metals in mountain streams, we’re sifting through smart contracts. Over the past year, over one billion dollars of on-chain relics have been dug up and we're just getting started.
Tenet XIII: Historical NFT collectors love a bad UX.

Those willing to put in the work to get over the steep learning curve around NFTs that predate the ERC-721 standard will be rewarded when developers inevitably give people access to them with the click of a button.
Tenet XIV: Historical NFTs protect you in a multi-chain future.

When looking to store value long-term there is no need to make a tough decision between chains. Because of cross-chain bridges, historical NFTs will be relevant no matter which chain wins.
Tenet XV: DYOR

There is no substitute for taking the time to research and verify claims. Everything is on-chain. Anyone willing to put in the time to understand what the market values and identify where there are gaps can safely buy undervalued historical NFTs and then wait.
Tenet XVI: Buy historical NFTs and hold for a decade.

There are only around ~500k wallets holding ERC-721 tokens in them right now. This number will increase by several orders of magnitude over the coming years as the UX around NFTs inevitably improves. Buy and do nothing.
Tenet XVII: The next BAYC was minted 2 years, 8 months, and 1 day ago. 💀

This sounds cliché but I truly believe it. Historical NFTs are the next big thing and CryptoSkulls helped spark the fire. They're becoming the symbol of this movement and want to help all historical NFTs.

1/ A vision for CryptoSkulls and Historical NFTs 💀
2/ For years OG NFT collectors have been quietly whispering that a time would come when all would know the stories and lore of NFT’s past.

And so the historical NFT communities and the modern NFT space lived in separate worlds.
3/ Until last Tuesday when something unexpected happened.

10,000 colorful, 8-bit skulls created 3 years ago set in motion a series of events that would eventually lead to the prophecy being fulfilled.

Five Web3 primitives you should know about 🧵
1/ Tokens

The first primitive we built on blockchains was tokens. They allow us to own and transfer slices of a pie. Bitcoin introduced currency as their first use case then when Ethereum came along we started using them for things like governance and fractionalized ownership.
2/ NFTs

We eventually realized that we could make each token unique and indivisible then attach a bunch of metadata to it. Thus non-fungible tokens were born. At first we used them as domain names on Namecoin then later we realized we could make art and tokenize gaming assets.

3/ Billions of humans will need to have access to a headset that matches real life when they put it on. This means that we will need a mass-produced headset with a resolution and frame rate that match the human eye.

1/ A continuation of the open metaverse discussions going on.

Thread focus: This is going to be some Ready Player One shit.
2/ An open metaverse isn’t a given and it’s probably not even the most likely outcome.

As we speak, an institution with twice the market cap of Ethereum has 50K highly paid engineers working around the clock to ensure it doesn’t become a reality.
3/ Zuck has publicly stated on multiple occasions that Facebook’s “overarching goal” is to “bring the metaverse to life”.

And they have laid out a crystal clear plan for how they will do it.
