Ashley Parker is the new Maggie Haberman.

Unfortunately, we still have the old Maggie Haberman too.
Just so everyone understands, Parker was a reasonable and measured journalist for years.

Last January, however, WaPo promoted her into the role of White House Bureau Chief.

She stepped into the Big Boss seat… just as clicks began the inevitable post-Trump slide.
So, a person who has never been the boss replaced a well regarded and effective predecessor right as clicks fell off a cliff.

Parker went from being just another reporter on the White House beat to winning a Pulitzer Prize and becoming WH Bureau Chief under Trump.
Trump was responsible for the greatest success Parker ever had in her life…

and now she is in a job she isn’t seasoned enough to handle just as all of the media’s euphoria from four years of profiteering wears off.

It’s midnight, the ball is over, and Cinderella blames Biden.
Parker is just one disgruntled Icarus of many.

They had four years of being SO important. Their employers loved them. The public hung on their every word.

AND THEN JOE BIDEN RUINED EVERYTHING.
For real, Trump created an industry of addicts… and now they’d push their grandfather down a flight of stairs to get back to their dealer.

Trump-addicted journalists would sooner see this country spiral down into flaming wreckage than accept that they’re just ordinary again.

I have written over 150,000 tweets.

This thread has always stood out in my memory as the most ominous thing I’ve ever written here.

I know narcissists. I knew what Trump meant. And I was worried he was right.

Four years later, I’m convinced he was.

1/2
Narcissists are vipers. They sense your heat - your wants and needs and emotions - and they use them to exploit you.

Trump found the media’s deepest desire - the attention he brought to them - and he exploited it.

The media is now all but working to ensure Biden loses in 2024.
I remember how chilling I found that interview four years ago.

The scorpion told the frog exactly how it would exploit the frog’s gullibility…

…and the frog just patted itself on the back for landing an interview with the scorpion.

Welcome to Fuckoffville, Greg

Population: You
For real, just one time, I would love to pick a lucky winner like Greg and see how they would cope with the bullshit I get daily.

It would be like an experiment.

One hour. People sniping at him about bullshit.

I’d love to see the reaction.
Maybe I could enlist folks to participate in a social experiment.

No meanness. Just a flurry of sniping and criticism and judgment after every thought.

Some future lucky winner.

A couple hundred replies. So, an hour’s worth.

A play in four acts

Act I: Brian stops by to start shit; condescends about spellcheck

Act II: It doesn’t goes as Brian had hoped.

Act III: The block and run away

Act IV: The performative tweet for his followers

I’m not the one. How is this not known?

1/
There are very specific reasons why I reply to people like Brian:

1) They get off on being obnoxious in replies

2) They count on never being confronted

3) The applause of their followers makes them feel powerful

4) They make Twitter worse for everyone

2/
Brian didn’t follow me.

He was just dropping by to take a shot at someone. Then, when confronted, he doubled down by being a dick.

That’s a really bad idea. I won’t just embarrass someone, I will make sure it leaves a mark.

Don’t start shit, there won’t be shit.

Interesting thread.

I think we are getting closer to a collective realization that Trump merely declared in advance he would be the winner and any result to the contrary would be false.

Then a wide network hatched elaborate schemes based on that premise.
Basically, when Trump declared that any negative result would be fraudulent, he activated his entire network of flying monkeys to try to corrupt their parts of the process.

Whether that was state electors, attorneys general, his staff and cronies, conservative media, etc…
Trump signaled that any loss should be wiped out by everything from undermining credibility to wholly cheating.

And then his flying monkeys went off and made myriad attempts ranging from large-scale conspiracies (multistate conspiracies) to local interference.

So, just summing up where we are:

- people initially speculated someone could only get COVID once

- Trump, et al, downplayed COVID and talked people out of getting vaxed

- so, now, dopes fully believe they can just get it, get over it, and have conquered Mt. COVID.

1/
In reality, we now know:

They will keep getting it again and again over time.

Each case has the potential to be deadly. Each has the potential to do permanent damage to lungs and other organs.

That damage can accumulate over time. (eg lung damage from smoking)

2/
So, the staunch anti-vaxers have now backed themselves into a place where they are nearly certain of getting COVID; are highly likely to get it chronically; and are increasingly likely to be seriously debilitated or killed by it over time.

And they think they beat it.

Crazy.

So, it was right around here, I think, when I thought to myself:

“Maybe breaking into an old abandoned asylum because of a model I met on the internet wasn’t a great idea after all.”

My decision-making, it isn’t strong sometimes…

1/
“But, hey, in for a dime, in for a dollar.” I thought. “I’m sure the place cheers right up once you get, ya know, further in.”

It did not, in fact, cheer right up.

<record scratches. turns to camera>

You’re probably wondering how I got here. It’s a funny story.

2/
A couple weeks ago, someone reached out to me on Instagram. Thats how you know it’s legit. Instagram.

They had seen some of my photography posts and wanted to know if I ever did photoshoots of people…
