A woman wrote me the following in an email. I am putting it here, word for word, without using her name for privacy reasons. 1/15
"I have 15 and 12 y/o girls who are straight but are transgender “allies”, having been embroiled in gender-identity politics at school for years. It's taken time to realize the scope of how powerful this movement is... 2/15
But from the start I’ve felt disturbing flags going up about it. I’ve always been 100% pro civil/equal rights but this movement felt unfamiliar. It felt sneaky & manipulative and there was a distinctly misogynistic vibe to it that aroused suspicion in me... 3/15
The aggressive, hostile language and constant victimization has never felt authentic, just abusive. I’m fully confident now that this is a corrosive movement and a threat to women and girls. The influencers have penetrated the younger generation of kids via social media... 4/15
I fear my kids are afraid to get in the bad graces of the bullies and so they won’t question any of it, thus actively contributing to their own destruction of rights... 5/15
And I feel the same way about the Democrats. They have been utterly careless in their reckless rush to use their platforms and power to enact laws and protections for this group while ignoring the dark consequences of those actions towards other groups. It’s unforgivable... 6/15
It destroys my soul to see how lesbians are being psychologically and sexually abused, female inmates are being raped, female athletes are losing their right to fair competition, and women everywhere are losing their voices and sense of value... 7/15
I’ve been paying attention to the shocking way the mainstream media shamelessly crafts headlines to elicit outrage on behalf of the transgender community. The angle of every single story paints the transgender community as victims who are under attack... 8/15
It’s the most irresponsible reporting I’ve ever seen. They’ve lost their credibility to me over this... 9/15
I’ve also lost trust in organizations like the ACLU, NOW and Planned Parenthood. I really can’t overstate the devastating impact this has had on me, morally, as a woman... 10/15
I wish the Republican Party was a serious alternative but they just aren’t. Therefore, I just won’t be voting at all this year. I’ve never felt so let down... 11/15
Women like you are my heroes right now. Thank you so much for the effort you put into getting your article out there. It made me feel understood, represented, and less isolated. For whatever that’s worth I just wanted to let you know." 12/15
Sarah Weddington was just 25 years old when she filed the complaint in Roe v. Wade in a federal court in Austin Texas in 1970, and just 27 years old when she argued it before the Supreme Court in 1972. She died yesterday at 76. 1/
This is the cover of her book "A Question of Choice," published in 1992. I read it in college and it has graced my bookshelf ever since. I held it up when I gave a short talk in support of Roe outside the Supreme Court on December 1 of this year. 2/
Here is a little mini-thread thread about pronouns. 1/8
Once, a few years ago, I was participating in a nationwide discussion, on Zoom, that was supposed to be about addressing racism in America. 2/8
At one point, we all got into break-out rooms with 2 or 3 participants. I got into my breakout room with one guy. He started out by saying his name and his pronouns. 3/8
Here is a fun story, in thread-form, about something that happened a few years ago on FB. A man named Kenneth kept not listening to terves who were attempting in good faith to educate him with well-sourced research papers. 1/8
Kenneth kept whining that all the sources being provided were too long and complicated. So I wrote this for him. I decided to revive it here today, and I would like to now dedicate it to Seth. 2/8
"Here is a very brief essay. I will call it, 'For Kenneth and Other Dudes who Don't Like it When Women Stand Up for Ourselves.'... 3/8
May 2021: "I know several women ... who have ... switched from Democrat to ... Republican or Independent because the leadership of the Democratic party ... refuses to listen to women when it comes to our concerns regarding so-called 'gender identity.'" 2 karadansky.com/read/things-ar…
July 2021: "Dear Democratic Party leadership (and other people in charge of running things), I have a question: What is wrong with you?" 3 karadansky.com/read/a-questio…
"I have personally warned staff members of prominent Democratic Senators that women will be leaving the party in droves if it doesn’t pay attention to our concerns...
I understand that we do not have the kind of money that buys complicity. We are not the Denton’s law firm, which in 2019 published a remarkable document outlining its strategy of getting “gender identity” enshrined in law using tactics of stealth and manipulation...
In a massive blow to women's reproductive rights, a near total ban on abortion went into effect in Texas today after the Supreme Court failed to act on an emergency request to halt the law from taking effect. No surprise there. But here's what's interesting to me about it ...
Writing for @nprpolitics, @NinaTotenberg writes: "The Texas law, passed in May, bans all abortions in the state after six weeks of pregnancy - well before many women even know they are pregnant." npr.org/2021/09/01/103…
