Page County, VA school board meeting

“No mask mandates. My children will not come to school Monday with a mask on. I will bring every single gun, loaded & ready…I’ll see y’all on Monday.”

This woman should be arrested for threatening a school shooting.
UPDATE: Local law enforcement is aware of the school shooting threat but no arrests have been made because she’s “apologized for her statement.”

White privilege is openly threatening to shoot up a school and police forgive you because you’re really really sorry.🤦🏽‍♂️ Image
UPDATE 2: Police have charged Amelia King with making a terroristic threat on school property. She’s been arrested and released on $5000 bond.

This is a good start to accountability. No one should be allowed to get away with such horrific calls to violence. Image
Virginia has Red Flag laws for a reason. A woman threatening to bring loaded guns to shoot up a school is not a law abiding gun owner & needs to be kept far away from firearms—Especially if she’s released on only $5000 bond.

All this rage over masks that protect kids from COVID.

Voter suppression is:
•Forcing Black ppl to wait 2X as long as white ppl to vote
•Requiring a new ID even after an ID was confirmed at voter registration
•Banning IDs disproportionately used by Black voters
•Closing polling locations in Black neighborhoods
#VotingRightsAct
Voter suppression is:
•Racial gerrymandering that disproportionately represents white voters over non-white voters
•Police target/charge Black people at higher rates, disenfranchising them
•Longer sentences for Black Americans, blocking them from more elections
#VotingRightsAct
Voter suppression is:
•Prison gerrymandering, where Black incarcerated people are denied voting but counted for redistricting
•Requiring formerly incarcerated people to pay court fees before voting
•Requiring people to take off work & lose money just to vote

Let's talk about the atrocity that happened in the Senate last night with 50 Republicans & 2 Dems blocking voting rights.

First of all—17 GOP Senators who voted FOR this bill back in 2006, now voted AGAINST it. GOP is telling us they've stopped caring about democracy.

This voting rights failure is a stark reminder that the Senate protects land—not people. Look at the math.

USA has ~330M people. The 52 Senators who blocked voting rights rep 148M people, The 48 Senators who support voting rights rep 182M people.

That's 34M people silenced!

/2
When asked about Black voter suppression, GOP Senator McConnell said, "African-American voters are voting in just as high a percentage as Americans.”

This is a lie, but also, he said the quiet part loud. Black people are not "real" Americans, who are apparently only white.

Predictable fail from Chuck Todd

Todd: "Parents are saying 'don't make my kid feel guilty." And a parent of color is going ‘I need to teach reality.'"

@nhannahjones: "Your framing said 'parents.' And then 'parents of color.' So the 'white' is silent."
Also since @chucktodd keeps asking “how young is too young” to talk about racism—I was 8 the first time I was called “camel jockey” & “sand ni**er.”

If BIPOC kids are old enough to experience racism—all kids are old enough to learn about the existence of racism & how to stop it.
Moreover, 54% of US school kids are BIPOC & 46% are white, while only 20% of US teachers are BIPOC & 80% are white.

The claim that white kids are being “race shamed” by teachers—the vast majority of whom are themselves white—is absurd & w/o evidence.

On Nov 30, 1921, a mob of white supremacists in Ballinger, TX, seized Robert Murtore, a 15-year-old Black child, from the custody of law enforcement, tied him to a post, & lynched him with 50 gunshots in broad daylight.

Today is the 100 year anniversary of this atrocity
/1
A 9 year old white girl claimed a Black person had harassed her. Robert was accused and arrested, & the following day the mob demanded police hand him over. The sheriff quickly handed him over to be lynched.

None of the white supremacists were charged or arrested. Instead...

/2
A TX newspaper described the white supremacist mob as “orderly" & leaving “peacefully”—all this after violently taking the young boy’s life in a horrific lynching.

I think about Robert as I think about Ahmaud Arbery, and the similarities are frightening—even 100 years later

Most of you have heard of Crystal Mason, the Black Texas woman sentenced to 5 years prison for inadvertently voting. Her vote never counted, but she was sentenced anyway.

Meanwhile white MAGA voters are getting off w/wrist slaps.

A thread on the systemic racism behind this:

/1
Donald Hartle, a white man, voted on behalf of his dead wife for Trump. He then lied to investigators, went on a propaganda GOP funded campaign to claim mass voter fraud, & finally got caught.

Donald got ZERO prison.

Crystal Mason got 5 years prison

/2
Terry Lynne Rote, a white Iowa woman, deliberately voted for Trump twice with two absentee ballots.

Terry got ZERO prison.

Crystal Mason got 5 years prison.

A quick thread for Virginia conservatives (and progressives) as we approach Election Day, and why you should vote for @TerryMcAuliffe for Governor.

Thread

If you're one of the now 500,000+ Virginians who have life saving healthcare access due to expanded Medicaid, Democrats did that.

If you're one of 50,000 Virginians suffering from drug/alcohol addiction but now have affordable treatment due to Medicaid, Democrats did that.

/2
If you're one of 781,000 Virginians who need insulin to live, and are grateful that insulin is capped at $50 a month instead of $700 a month, Democrats did that.

The GOP could have done this at any time they were in power, but they didn't. Democrats did.
