An interesting study is linked in @michelleinbklyn's article on how politics negatively affect mental/physical health. The study utilized self-report instruments used to measure Alcohol/Gambling addiction...which is unsurprising based on the parallels: 1/
Specifically, the study found: 2/

I've previously analyzed the multitude of factors that affect political impulse control, including social media "addiction"-related sleep deprivation that hyper-activates the amygdala (emotion), & deactivates the prefrontal cortex (reason/judgment).... 3/
This not only parallels the impairment of impulse control/disinhibition of addiction, but may also help explain why 5% or the respondents reported suicidal thoughts b/c of politics. 4/

One major factor detrimentally affecting mental health is the manipulation/exploitation of neuropsychological fear responses that seem to create a state of hyper-vigilance that is similar to PTSD: 5/

"Now we'll really prove the election was stolen".

The political/election version of rapture prophecies that just keep moving the promised date/outcome farther down the line, with "the delusional, non-occurring predictions reinforcing belief in the conspiracy".

B/c: dopamine. 1/

I watched 3 hours of the Joe Rogan interview Dr. Robert Malone. Some observations about Malone, Rogan....and the complexities involving Covid/vaccines, “truth”, cancel culture, Big Pharma, the tribalization of science, political disinformation, and the “Trump effect”: 1/
First, it reinforces how catastrophic it was to have someone as pathologically dishonest as Trump as POTUS when Covid surfaced. I analyzed this extensively in the 70+ threads written between Trump’s covid “hoax” rally, and the 1/6 insurrection. 2/
Trump lies like he breathes.

As a result, he not only convinced roughly half the country that they couldn’t believe a word he said…

...but he also convinced the other half of the country that they couldn’t believe anything anyone else said (“fake news”). 3/

"...One of the overlooked factors of Qanon: there’s an interactive, crowd-sourcing component where people compete, receive a “reward” (dopamine) for being the *cleverest*, connecting the furthest dispersed dots, & for (most absurdly) advancing the “story” the furthest/quickest."

Mind-numbingly dumb argument.
1. Trump's pathological dishonesty caused the "riot"
2. 147 Republicans voted to decertify (back Trump's lie)
3. A failed attempt does not negate intent
4. 58% of GOP votes still believe the lie...
5. ...b/c countless GOP politicians still support it
6. When the guy (Trump) who @benshapiro blames for the riot is the same guy who's a lock for the GOP nomination...it's not the focus on 1/6 that is "outsized".....what's "outsized" is the pathetic, intellectually dishonest dismissal of the threat. 2/

7. No, not the entire party or all of its voters. But support of Big Lie is the cost of admission into GOP primaries.

Using "all or nothing", absolute language is an intellectually dishonest attempt to distract from the truth.
See #'s 4 and 5 above. 3/

Malone carries himself like a disgruntled lover:

"If I can't have her....no one can".

If Malone was up for a Nobel prize, would he be all over Right Wing media disparaging the vaccines?

Probably not. 1/
If Malone was up for a Nobel Prize, he'd most likely be downplaying side effects of his "brilliant invention" as a minor/necessary risk.

At this point, the amount of attention/adulation he gets as the darling of the Bannon/Rogan audiences far exceeds that given to scientists. 2/
Malone is not going back....and as his "I alone" and 1930 era Germany comments indicate...

...he's going to give the people what they want...

...because the people give him what he wants:

Attention, adulation, and the money that will come with it.
