152 years ago the United States Army massacred a peaceful camp of Piikuni. They fucking killed babies. They killed them by bashing them against trees and stomping on them with boots. The violence that kickstarted this nation is still visible, and this story is still relevant
One soldier refused to join in the senseless killing, run to a bush and saw a young mother with her infant hiding… she was scared seeing him so he went somewhere else, he went back to that bush to check on her and her and her baby were shot
Now, all but a small handful of Piikuni survived but each one of them soldiers lived. You cannot convince me they lived happy, care free lived after that. The violence of colonization traumatized them and their descendant. White America it traumatized, just look at the pandemic.
Don’t blame me for not being a patriot, or some American nationalistic when I grew up knowing this story. Fuck, tease me if I am nationalistic
They fucking killed babies… innocent children and weak old women and men. The warriors were out hunting… the untied states army killed little indigenous babies… 152 years later and it still break my heart
And that’s the thing. The horror of the untied states and it’s continued tradition of destabilizing communities around the world just trying to live will last for generations. In 152 years people will lament the horrors done today. This country sucks
I really want to know who the living descendants are of those soldiers who killed my people, not to judge you or scold you, but to help your family heal. Because there’s no doubt your ancestor was a piece of shit who left a legacy of trauma in your family
My people talk about our trauma and we want to heal… white Americans act like nothing happened and everything is gravy while most of them are on anti-depressants. Idk, maybe you’re on them because your great grandpa was a shit human being and his legacy has you in a grip?
White America needs to face their trauma… we do… y’all can learn how to survive this world from us, as your ancestors did… but this time, do so to live a better life, not to steal from us
Oh ya, it’s also my brother’s birthday lol

Racialism is a result of colonization. Dismantling racism is paramount to a good life, but dismantling racialism (the belief that race is a real thing) seems to be something most do not want to do.
It’s justified to demand white people to dismantle white supremacy but it’s plum houngie if continue to center race when talking about indigeneity.
Frankly, a lot of ndns are xenophobic, which makes sense considering the last few hundred years but also is completely heartless when considering an infants place in their tribe by making their ‘pedigree’ a defining factor
Today is the anniversary of The Bakers Massacre and here on the Blackfeet Rez we have an open discussion of the trauma colonial violence left us with. However, it isn’t just us who suffers this trauma... white america suffer from this trauma, too... albeit in a different way
It is unhealthy the way america glorifies violence and sings songs of being ‘land of the free’ without taking any time to examine the negative toll that comes with raping and murdering an entire continent
This young soldiers who were directed to stomp on infants in order to save bullets did not come out of these massacres unscathed. They went home with anxiety and PTSD. Many, I’d wager, went home and beat their kids and wives and created a cycle of violence
English language is a transaction language. It’s a trade language and no longer has a land to call it own. It’s a drifter language. Don’t get me wrong, there are beautiful expressions and adjectives and adverbs... but most English verbs are dull and bland and lack description
English places emphases on nouns that many other languages don’t. My mentor, who created the best writing system for our language (Blackfoot) creates his own literacy rules as well. He doesn’t capitalize anything... If you don’t understand the significance of this move then ookss
Also, early European linguists/anthropologists had the audacity to call indigenous languages ‘primative’ and ‘childish’ for having animacy and inanimacy as syntacal features of our languages. One can say that that is were our ‘gender’ sits- is it animate or not??
