Internet vigilanteism feels like “just desserts” to me most of the time. Sometimes though, I have to admit, it feels like burning an effigy.
A depersonalized opportunity to avenge some general societal ill in the form of one incident.
I think the store staff should have a say.
That would be restorative justice - which is about making amends to the impacted: the victims and community.
It isn’t up to me to decide what is enough to ameliorate harm to others. I think they should get a say there.
Side note: since nothing upsets Twitter more than measured takes that run counter to the addiction to maximum rage, I’m gonna go on ahead and mute this.
The frantic mob energy feels toxic AF even when I agree with it.
