Wild ride here on corruption in government & policing in Bridgeport Connecticut. Stumbled across it trying to find contact information for the Police Commissioner, so I could call and demand #JusticeForLaurenSmithFields. Buckle up. 🧵 follows:
The current “Acting” Chief of Police of Bridgeport is Rebeca Garcia. She was recently successfully sued by three PD Captains that she was illegally appointed Deputy Chief by the former Chief of Police, Armando Perez.
Garcia was promoted to “Acting” Chief when her previous boss, Chief Perez was arrested, along with former city Personnel Director, David Dunn, for conspiring to rig the Chief of Police hiring examination process to move his application to the top of the list, moving him from
“Acting” to permanent Police Chief. He was also convicted of lying to the FBI when they were investigating the matter. He was sentenced to 18 months, but only served a fraction of that. #JusticeForLaurenSmithFields
Now, here’s where it really gets interesting. How Perez got appointed as Deputy Chief & then “Acting” Chief. The former, former Police Chief Joseph Gaudett, had a Deputy Chief, James Nardozzi. Nardozzi was tasked with cutting costs by getting to the bottom of out of control
OT expenses. The police Union who is accused of misuse of the “featherbedding” OT system, was NOT happy with Nardozzi. While Nardozzi was working on the OT problem, there was a Mayoral race going on. The incumbent was being challenged by Joe Ganim (D). Here’s where it gets wild.
Joe Ganim had previously served as Mayor of Bridgeport 1991-2003. He resigned in 2003 when he was convicted on charges of federal corruption and bribery. He served 7 years of a 9 year sentence. #JusticeForLaurenSmithFields
We’re not done yet. So, Nardozzi is alleging that convicted felon, candidate Ganim conspired with the police Union. If they backed him in his mayoral campaign, he would fire Nardozzi & ensure they could continue their little OT bilking scheme.
The Union backed Ganim. Ganim won. He tasked former Police Chief with firing Nardozzi & naming Perez as Deputy Chief. Then Gaudett resigned & was given a “consulting” position with Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center.
Oh, and that came with a $125,000.00 salary. Sweet deal, huh? I’m almost done, so bear with me.
Summary: Convicted felon Mayor Ganim conspired with the police Union to fire deputy chief Nardozzi. Before leaving office Chief Gaudett hand picked corrupt Perez to be Deputy Chief. Perez rigs hiring process to get the permanent position & then illegally names Garcia as his
Deputy Chief. She’s now “Acting” Chief because Perez got caught. Anyway: they are all corrupt & they won’t investigate or seek #JusticeForLaurenSmithFields unless there’s TONS of pressure. So I suggest we start calling & demanding it. Contact info:

Oh, and through all this searching I never did find a contact for the Police Commission. From what I can tell, it looks like a completely defunct organization. #JusticeForLaurenSmithFields
