This law prohibits the marriage of minors & also punishes adults who enter into, perform, conduct, or direct child marriages.
It includes both civil & criminal prohibitions to prevent child marriage & protect children's rights.
2️⃣Right to free & mandatory schooling till 14 years
Under the Right of Children to Free & Compulsory Education Act of 2009, all children between the ages of 6 & 14 have the right to elementary education in a neighborhood school.
3️⃣Termination of pregnancy w/o consent of pregnant woman is punishable by law
Determination of the sex of foetus & female foeticide is still prevalent in several parts of India. But as per MTP Act “no pregnancy shall be terminated except with the consent of the pregnant woman”
4️⃣All Pre-Natal diagnostic techniques that help in sex selection are banned by law.
Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation & Prevention of Misuse) Act, prohibits the medical personnel from conducting or helping anyone conduct sex-selection.
5️⃣Buying & selling of minor girls for prostitution is a punishable offence
Sec 372 & 373,IPC punishes those involved in buying & selling of minor girls. Punishment can range from fine-10 yrs of imprisonment
Sec 363-A, IPC punishes kidnapping a minor for the purpose of begging
B.R Ambedkar has said, “I measure the progress of a community by the degree of progress which women have achieved”.
