Grave attack on press freedom. This is what the Nazis did: incited hatred against those who challenged them ("Lügenpresse"). Solidarity with Peter Doocy. It's a dangerous time to tell the truth in America. I hope all press freedom groups and other outlets will condemn this attack
Peter Doocy is doing his job as a journalist: holding powerful political officials accountable, asking the tough questions. For that, he is demeaned and verbally assaulted by the most powerful politician in the country, in public, possibly inciting violence by his followers.
Thank you, @BrianStelter, for showing solidarity for your fellow journalist and demonstrating you uphold your principles regardless of partis-- oh, wait, this is from 2018:
Good morning from the American liberals fighting against fascism, to protect US democracy, and ensure that we all live under basic democratic norms of freedom and liberty.
I'd like once again to pose the question: is emphatic and direct opposition to US involvement in Ukraine coming primarily from left-wing politicians or right-wing politicians?
The central rhetorical tactic of neocons for decades is to accuse anyone who questions their new plan for US military action of being a traitor, on the side of The Enemy.
That's now the framework on CNN and in liberal circles for Ukraine because neocons lead liberal discourse.
"Biden is considering deploying several thousand U.S. troops, as well as warships and aircraft, to NATO allies in the Baltics and Eastern Europe, an expansion of American military involvement amid mounting fears of a Russian incursion into Ukraine."
The goal of Russiagate - beyond sabotaging a just-elected president who the CIA, neocons and the military-industrial complex viewed as an unstable threat - was to propagandize liberals into seeing Moscow as a military threat. We're now seeing the fruits.
In 2015, there was enormous bipartisan pressure on Obama to swamp Ukraine with lethal arms. When he resisted, that turned to rage. That rage was channeled by @JeffreyGoldberg, and **Obama told him: Ukraine is a vital interest to Russia, not the U.S.**
British journalists with no accomplishments or purpose are always the most contemptuous of Julian Assange. That's just basic petty jealousy. But the indifference toward, even support for, this grave attack on press freedom by the US & UK *from journalists* never ceases to amaze.
Technically, this is a "victory" for Assange. But the High Court agreed to decide whether to hear his case only on the narrowest, most technical ground. In the meantime, he remains silenced in a cage: what the US/UK want even more than his extradition.
This is the key point. There is a clear purpose behind the attempt to destroy Assange:
To signal to western journalists they can do what they want as long as they don't meaningfully undermine power centers by disclosing information they want concealed.
Meanwhile, war-hungry neocons have re-migrated back to the Democratic Party to do what they exist to do: agitate for every war, demonize every US adversary, malign anyone who resists as a traitor. They know liberal culture is their best host for this:
The Committee plotted with JPMorgan Chase and its lawyer, former Obama AG Loretta Lynch, to obtain a citizen's financial records with no possibility of judicial review.
Then the Committee told a court it is not bound by any limits that the FBI and other agencies must observe.
Congress's 1/6 Committee has been secretly obtaining private information about US citizens en masse: telephone records, email logs, browsing history, banking transactions. And it has done so without safeguards: no judicial oversight, warrants, legal limitations of any kind.
