*THREAD* Integrity and honesty - and why they matter. #dailyspark
Integrity is telling the truth, the whole truth & nothing but the truth…the spirit of truth. It’s about doing the right thing irrespective of where we are or who is watching us. It’s about holding ourselves to a high standard of doing things we say irrespective of circumstance.
Integrity is not about good or bad; it is about transparent consistency. It is standing for your convictions whether others agree or not, both when they are looking and when they are not.

Our study finds #COVID19 clinical risk tools should reflect factors predominantly affecting ethnic minorities including: multiethnic age structures, multimorbidity & deprivation

This will enable early identification & triage to appropriate care (1/10)

bmjopenrespres.bmj.com/content/8/1/e0…
Background: Ethnic minorities account for 34% of critically ill patients with COVID-19 despite constituting 14% of the UK population

Effective triage at hospital admission is required to ensure pts from all ethnic groups are risk stratified to appropriate level of care
(2/10)
So far it has been unclear how well risk models perform to risk stratify individual ethnic minority groups and whether models sufficiently account for biological and socioenvironmental risk factors to which ethnic minorities are predominantly predisposed inc. #COVID19. (3/10)

*Thread* - How to do a literature review

1) Decide on your topic- keep the scope broad to start with. You don’t yet know what’s out there or where the gaps are.

2) Identify themes, debate and gaps - Start with a broad search, evaluate the arguments and identify the gaps.
3) Look through journals, books and search engines. Highly cited papers are useful but also look at those which perhaps aren’t as well cited too- equally important in a lit search. Get an idea of up to date and slightly older works too. Helps to keep track via an excel sheet.
4) Evaluate sources. Look at:

- methodology
- sample size
- spread of study
- literature which the paper relies upon
- discussion angle
- conclusions (in the context of the study type and methodology).

Remember that just because it’s published doesn’t make it high quality!

*Mental health thread*

At least 1 in 4 of us are suffering with mental health illnesses.

We are all human and we do not know what trouble the human beside us is facing.

🙏 CHOOSE to listen, support, be kind & fair.

Your hello and smile may be what gives someone strength.
The thing about mental health is that it can seriously affect how we see things, how we perceive ourselves and others around us.

Negative thoughts of failure or self-criticism or loss of confidence being wrongly reinforced by how others treat us can affect how we feel.
Eventually it can all become overwhelming.

One can feel that they can no longer cope.

Choose not to be the person who takes away someone’s sense of security, self belief, sense of achievement or confidence.

*Happiness thread"

Happiness is a range of feelings from positive emotions to great joy.

Happiness changes the way we see ourselves and situations. Our happiness affects how we react in situations and interact with others.

#Happiness is a choice.

#Happiness is infectious

😀
Researchers have found that happiness supports: a stronger immune system, stronger resilience in the face of stress, a stronger heart and less risk of cardiovascular disease, alongside quicker recovery times when overcoming illness or surgery
Happiness maximises our ability to look after ourselves. Happiness supports more exercise, better socializing, healthy eating, good sleep hygiene.

#happiness is a beautiful thing 😀👍🖐️

* Burnout thread *

Burn-out is a syndrome conceptualized as resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed.

3 dimensions:

- feeling exhausted

- feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one's job

- reduced professional efficacy.
Burn-out is included in the 11th Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) as an occupational phenomenon.
Burnout is more likely to happen if we:
1) don't feel valued
2) don't feel like we are making an impact
3) have no autonomy over a situation
