Tonight I got t-boned by a guy running a stop sign in a residential area going 80-100 mph. The seatbelt broke my collar bone and the airbags broke my front teeth. The dashboard trapped my feet and knees in the car for 20 minutes while they ripped the top of the car off to get me.

I have surgery in the morning to repair my collar bone. I'm in pain, but not as much as I would expect.

The guy who hit me flipped over and fled the scene. I was told he later came back and was arrested. I guess that means he was physically ok.

There's a very good possibility that had I not been driving a @Tesla with the heavy battery pack in the floor of the car and their safety features, I would have flipped and possibly died. (I'm now even more of a Tesla fanboy #SorryNotSorry).

Also... @remix_run is awesome, give it a try.

Surgery went great. Will probably be able to go home today. Have to wait for swelling to go down before my dentist can fix my teeth (which hurt must now) Thanks for all the well wishes!

I'm eager to get some pictures of the wreck and the video recording from my Tesla cameras.

I'm home now. The police still have the hard drive from my Tesla, but here are a few photos they shared with me.

Again, I'm pretty confident that had I not been driving a @Tesla, instead of a broken collar bone, broken teeth, and cuts/bruises, I would not have walked away from this experience at all. I have a wife and four kids.

I will 100% be replacing this one with a new @Tesla.

@Tesla Everyone in the hospital and those on the scene said I should be paralyzed or dead.

I'm also confident that my brother who died in a car accident when I was a little boy had a hand in keeping me safe last night. 😇

@Tesla Interestingly, the crash test demoed in that video above is almost *exactly* like my crash. Swap the Model Y for a Model 3 and put the point of impact a bit closer to the driver and you have my crash. This is what makes @Tesla cars the safest in the world.

Oh, some of you might be wondering. No, autopilot was not running.

I'm pretty sure if I had this would not have happened. I come to a more quick and abrupt stop than autopilot and so the truck would have sped by before autopilot would have stopped at the sign. "If only..." 🤷‍♂️

Oh, and one other difference between the crash the Tesla team demoed in the video above and mine is that my truck was much bigger and going 80 mph ... Honestly it blows my mind that I survived that.

Slept pretty ok. I've figured out how to drink water without it hurting my teeth as much so that's a win. And I have a system for eating soup. Really looking forward to seeing my dentist tomorrow which I guess is pretty unusual 🦷 haven't brushed in a few days because it hurts 😬

My shoulder is still numb. Hopefully it won't be in too much pain when feeling returns.

I was playing piano with my 6 year old boy and he stopped and said "I'm sorry you got into an accident. I'm glad you're going to be ok. There must be a reason."
