🚨📺💣 | Tonight our Head of ‘EXPO’ Matt will be sharing his thoughts on @ITV#TriggerPoint.
Matt’s offering a rare, personal insight in to how this unique unit really operates.
@ITV Evening, I'm Matt and I'm head of the Met's EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) Unit and Senior EXPO.
The EOD unit sits within the Counter Terrorism Command (SO15) and we have a mix of civilian and police officers on the team.
The Met is unique in that we have the only Police EOD Unit in the country and we provide a 24/7 immediate response to suspected Chemical, Biological, Radiological or Nuclear (CBRN) incidents as well as any suspected explosive devices across the whole of London.
All our EXPOs are ex-military experts, but they are supported by police officers - called 'Assistant EXPOs' - who are specially trained in bomb disposal and CBRN and work directly with our EXPOs
Anyone else see Lana step over the top of a possible pressure mat? Rest assured we would never do that.
We have two types of robots that we use - basically a small one and a big one, and it really can push a vehicle out the way! We use the robot whenever and wherever possible.
The origins of EXPO unit in the Met can be traced to 1964. In response to the use of explosives by criminals to get into bank safes, we needed experts to ensure the safety of crime scenes.
The unit deal with about 1000 calls or incidents a year across London that require our specialist response and expertise.

I hope this gave you an insight into the work of our EXPOs and EOD unit. We're lucky to have such incredibly skilled and dedicated officers and staff on the team. It's one of the many highly specialised capabilities and units that we have both in SO15 and across the Met

We can only do what we do by working closely with our many colleagues from across the Met and beyond, so if you're inspired by any of this, find out more about becoming an officer in the Met - met.police.uk/police-officer…

DAC Laurence Taylor said: "“Officers have responded to residents complaining about a large gathering, noise, anti-social behaviour and violence.
“These gatherings are illegal and also pose a risk to public health."
“The violence shown towards officers this evening was totally unacceptable and we will not tolerate it in any form. Officers encountered bricks and other missiles being thrown at them."

A crime prevention garden which incorporates proven techniques to deter opportunistic burglars is on display at the @The_RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show this week. This will be the first time that a garden like this has featured at this prestigious annual show #RHSHampton
The garden was created by 2 students at @CapelManor School of Garden Design & Plantsmanship after they won a competition sponsored by @securedbydesign the national police crime prevention initiative and run in collaboration with the Met Police Designing Out Crime Team #RHSHampton
The garden features a number of discreet crime prevention features to help keep your home and garden safe. These include prickly plants, security lights and gravel pathways amongst other things. #RHSHampton
