In a politically unstable clime like ours, banking on tomorrow is like staking your annual income on Arsenal to win the EPL. Nigeria is not like Sydney Sheldon's best seller, tomorrow may never come.
The extant national order has led to the rise of youths clamouring for power because they are convinced the old heads are either suffering from senescence or are just uninterested in National progress.
Prior to now, millennials were only focused on getting a degree and jobs to pay their bills but corruption has helped us stem the tide. They can hardly afford to pay the fees and the jobs are not available. The fall of the naira has put everyone at dis-ease.
62 years into independence, we haven't made a head way as a nation. It has been more convenient to blame Lord Lugard rather than come together to build this nation. The last 7 years has arguably been the worst era of leadership we have ever had.
It is one thing to vote in a bad leader for 4 years and another to convince yourself that the reward for failure is a second term. We have to do better. As a nation, we are divided across tribal, regional and religious lines but we have to learn to look beyond that for our good.
Like Barrack Obama said, if the people cannot trust their government to do that for which it exists - to protect them and promote their common welfare, then all else is lost and that is why the fight against corruption is one of the greatest fights of our time.
This lost hope can be seen in the mass exodus that has begun these last two years. People are tired. We are not even safe in our own country. How can you be safe when the State sends its military to open fire on civilians?
But this is time for a change - a time to usher in the change that you believe in. Even if you cross the ocean, Nigeria will not leave you. The country has to work for the good of us all. You'll head to the poll next year, remember that the change you believe in starts with you.
I do not belong to the school of thought that there are born leaders. I believe that only the test of fire make fine steel. Just as a good man is judged by his antecedents, a leader is judged likewise. You have seen the candidates, you know whom you don't deserve.
It was Karl Marx who said every few years, the oppressed are allowed to decide which particular representatives of the oppressing class are to represent and repress them.
But it doesn't have to be so. Our democracy has been a charade - a government of liars by liars for liars.
I understand the clamour for power by youths, by women and by others but good leadership is not about identity politics. It is irrelevant that you are male or female, young or old - we just need people who are able and willing to do the job.
While you may not be able to contest, you are not any less relevant. Your voting power matter and this new dispensation is in your hands. I enjoin you to sensitize the masses about the importance of their vote. Push this thing like your life depends on it, because it does.
Whether you write articles, make tweets, host space, hold court in your community, go on outreaches, wave flags, make animations and skit, please make your voice heard and even more importantly, let your vote speak.
Like Reagan said, the price of freedom is high but we must never be unwilling to pay this price. Please pay the price of freedom by voting the change you believe in come 2023.
Thank You

ARE THE WOODS STILL GREEN?
In the wake of the allegation levied against Mason Greenwood, I have tried to gather my thoughts before making a statement. This is largely because I wasn't sure to address it independently or marry it with the overt consequences of sexual assault.
Mason was a precocious child with an opulence of footballing grace. His quick development is a testament to this. At 17, he became Manchester United's youngest goal scorer in European competition. At 20, he is signed to NIKE, earns £75,000 weekly (For context, about #50million).
He lives in a £2million(#1.5billion) Cheshire mansion. You can say the world is at his feet as he is on his way to becoming a Manchester United legend. So where did it all go wrong?
According to Joanna Potkanska, a Toronto-based social worker and trauma-informed psychotherapist, “We tend to remain in patterns that are familiar to us. We often do not realize that the relationships we are in are abusive, especially if we grew up in dysfunctional families.”
Generally, I like to believe that we accept the love we think we deserve. However, it would be unfair to blame the abused for a person's poor character. Those who have a history of repeated circle of abuse have their world view skewed to a point they forget the rainbow exist.
One of the downside to victimhood is that victims most often blame themselves. The idea that we are loved as we are being abused, or that we are being abused because we are loved is an inherent flaw that develops with acceptance of an abusive reality.
"If I'm dating you, focus on yourself because I'll focus on myself."
This is not just senseless, it is stupid. The term relate means to commit yourself to another. It is oxymoron to claim relationship and still preach me, myself & I.
Similarly, when people say marriage is overrated, it basically means you are overrated. Marriage is not an abstract word. Marriage simply means joining 2 things together. You can marry anything - 2 ideas, 2 agreement, 2 people.
You and your partner is what failed, not the institution. You didn't work at it and so it failed. There is no huge meaning to marriage - just coming together of 2 people
In relationship, just like marriage, it is not about YOU. It is about the union. The relationship comes first
On the issue of the lady with a fully funded scholarship who was asked to pick the Msc or stay and marry.
Everyone is saying, a partner that doesn't want you to go for Msc doesn't want the best for you. I don't agree to the absoluteness of that claim and I'll explain.
Msc is good and it is an opportunity to build herself and her career. But we know that a relationship involves 2 people and not one person. Everyone is making is sound like an Msc is more important than a relationship. A good partner is difficult to find - home and abroad.
When you find one, you want to keep it. Some are using her age as a point of argument. She is 22.
Being 22 means she is young and thus, has time to find a better spouse when she has gone for her Msc and possibly gotten a career. But since when is tomorrow promised?
PROFILING is another abused word on Twitter and the daftest among them are those who always bring up EndSARS to argue against profiling.
There is NOTHING wrong with profiling. Everybody profiles because it is the smartest way to use your intuition.
The problem with the Nigerian Police wasn't profiling. It was unlawful profiling. Unlawful profiling connotes discriminatory practices that imposes a presumption of guilt on a person.
Whether you like it or not, you are being profiled everyday.
Whether you admit it or not, you profile people everyday.
That is why in Oshodi, you rather walk up to that guy with glasses and school bag who looks like a student than that guy sagging his jeans with brown teeth and red eyes drinking agbo.
To me, prostitution is a necessary part of society. The demand is high. The supply is high. Legalization is necessary to protect the the ones on the street from sexual abuse and economic exploitation. Their colleagues working from home and on the Internet don't need protection.
The problem with prostitution in Nigeria is denial. People who prostitute don't want to admit to prostitution and don't want to be seen as one. Hence, they use all sort of euphemism to address the prostitution.
But prostitution in our society is large scale.
The ones we call prostitutes are actually street prostitute. Prostitution exists in our clubs, bars, massage parlour, small and medium scale businesses are used as front for prostitution both online and offline, 9 - 5ivers used their weekend travelling to satisfy customers.
