People are surprised that #RahulGandhi took #TamilNadu as reference when he was discussing #federalism and state rights in the Parliament today. They really shouldn't be that surprised. Here is why.... (1/7)
#Congress while governing India for decades, never really cared about federalism. 7 years in opposition and few years as junior partner in coalitions with state parties, Congress and #RahulGandhi have finally realized that federalism is the way forward. (2/7)
Also, credit where it is due, #RahulGandhi is a quick learner. Few visits to #TamilNadu in last 3 years and within 2 years of becoming MP from a nearby state, he has at least studied the issues, idea and politics of #TamilNadu and people of #TamilNadu. (3/7)
#DMK has definitely played a huge role in this change in mindset. #DMK has taken #Congress with them in #TamilNadu and they have taught #Congress and #RahulGandhi what works in #TamilNadu. I'm sure #DMK leaders would've banged on about federalism in their conversations. (4/7)
Don't you think slogans from #TamilNadu MPs like "Tamil Vaazhga" and "Periyar Vaazhga" while swearing in will have have an impact on the other MPs sitting in the house? It definitely has some impact and #Congress is finally taking a stand. (5/7)
Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't heard of a central party's top leader repeating and stressing the words, "India is a Union of States" in Parliament. I hope these are not mere words and there is some substance behind them. (6/7)
Dont forget that it's the same #Congress and its leaders who mocked and called #PeraringarAnna as a separatist (which I'm sure he was proud of) for saying similar things in the Parliament more than 50 years ago. (7/7)
