Today, as we honor several officers who died in the line of duty, DAG Monaco, ASG Gupta, & AAG Clarke met with many of the nation’s sheriffs @MCSheriffs about our shared dedication to fighting violent crime and the work our partners are doing on the front lines, every day.
@MCSheriffs They stressed the #DOJ strategy to reduce violent crime is about partnership. DAG Monaco said when it comes to violent crime, “there is not a single thing we do that is not on the backs of & with our state & local partners. It permeates our work, our strategy, & our thinking.”
@MCSheriffs “We are our best when we are working with our state and local partners,” said DAG Monaco, who also made clear that those partnerships will only increase in 2022 as #DOJ continues to operate approximately 200 violent crime-related task forces with our partners nationwide.
@MCSheriffs ASG Gupta reiterated that "the honorable work officers are doing does not get enough attention” & discussed the $139 million that #DOJ provided in 2021 to 183 police departments, allowing them to hire over 1,000 additional officers.
@MCSheriffs “We are also hopeful that Congress will pass the President’s budget which would give us $7 billion—that would be an additional $2.5 billion over what we had this year—to assist and support our state, local and Tribal partners,” said ASG Gupta.
@MCSheriffs .@CivilRights AAG Clarke emphasized that to make communities safer #DOJ is committed to building trust between law enforcement & those we are sworn to protect.
@MCSheriffs@CivilRights AAG Clarke also discussed working to increase reporting of hate crimes, and making that easier for law enforcement, not harder.
@MCSheriffs@CivilRights .@COPSOffice Acting Director Chapman also joined and told @MCSheriffs that “the COPS Office always appreciates the opportunity to hear from MCSA, and we are committed to delivering the programs and resources that your members need to reduce crime and expand community policing.”
