In 2017 I had open heart surgery to remove my pericardium that was constricting my heart. The day after surgery my left lung collapsed. I was wide awake as the doctor cut my chest and inserted a tube to help me breathe.
Two days after that I went into respiratory failure with hypoxia and had systemic inflammatory response syndrome. They called my mom to the hospital in the middle of the night because they didn’t know if I’d make it.
I was in so much pain, I couldn’t breathe, and I was hallucinating. I truly thought I was going to die that night. I fought like hell to be here and still have to fight to be here every single day.
Only this time it’s not just my body I’m fighting, it’s misinformation, anti-maskers, anti-vaxxers, and school boards. I still have nightmares about that night and wake-up feeling like I can’t breath.
I don’t want to go through that again.I don’t want my high risk boys to go through that.I don’t wish that on my worst enemy but if you can’t do the bare minimum to help protect your neighbors,I’m going to have a hard time having any sympathy for you when you’re going through it.
I’m not usually a mean spirited person but I’m tired. I’m tired of being sick. I’m tired of hearing my life doesn’t matter. I’m tired of begging people to be decent human beings and to think of others. I’m tired of being stuck at home. I’m tired of feeling helpless.
I’ll keep fighting though because my life matters. My boy’s lives matter. Disabled lives matter. EVERY SINGLE PERSON MATTERS. #wearamask#getvaccinated#mylifematters
After I filed my complaint with the GA DOE and I received the ruling, I was ecstatic. They ruled in my favor that @CobbSchools had not provided my boys’ a free and appropriate education in the least restrictive environment.
I thought I was finally getting somewhere and that Lawson and Camden would potentially be finishing their sophomore year in-person. Unsurprisingly, my excitement didn’t last long.
The superintendent was doubling down on his stance and was even lessening the microscopic mitigation the county had been doing.
