[Thread] 1/ Many Apartheid apologists like to use the argument that Amnesty is 'obsessed' with Israel, or 'biased' against Israel. Below are just a few examples of how every supporter of every state Amnesty writes about uses the same propagandistic 'bias argument'. Pattern much?
Turkey
Nigeria
Saudi
Armenia
Azerbaijan
India
Pakistan
Need I go on? Safe to say, nationalists or propagandists will always accuse their critic of being biased against them. If Amnesty are biased against all human rights abusers, then good for them

[Thread] 1/ We all know this happens, but weird for it to be so brazen. Students as Israel's Reichman University have a 'situation room' where they monitor social media for attacks on Israel. This press release from May 2021 shows that during Israel's runi.ac.il/en/whatsup/pag…
2/ bombings of Gaza, 180 students were basically engaged in social media 'counter-efforts to balance the anti-Israel discourse', in languages including 'English, French and Spanish'. They also reported 'inciting content'. Despite insisting they are independent and 'civilian',
3/ They also mention they receive assistance from the 'Institute for Policy and Strategy headed by Maj. (res.) Amos Gilead, and the Abba Eban Institute for International Diplomacy headed by Ambassador Ron Prosor' #disinformation
It begins with a canal project in Afghanistan and a cafe worker called Sophia, but ends by explaining how 91% of likes on UAE Crown Prince @MohamedBinZayed's tweets are created by at least 11,000 bots/fake accounts #disinformation#UAE
2/ So what alerted me to this weirdness. Firstly, a series of strange tweets about a UAE project in Afghanistan to build a canal.
'Kate Johnson' and 'Jessica Anderson' were really amped about the project.
3/ What was odd about Johnson and her ilk is how specific they were. Sophia Moore, for example, claims to work in tea junction cafe in Ajman...It's a real place, but who wants to bet Sophia doesn't work there?
...even if she does have to work to 'have money for fashion'
1/ 🧵There aren't many people who would consider themselves an apologist of #NSOGroup, or opponents of @amnesty, but Irina Tsukerman is one of them. This thread highlights the presence of artificial amplification of her thread attempting to discredit those orgs #disinformation
2/ After more news broke today/yesterday about Pegasus spyware being used to target human rights activists, Irina posted a lengthy thread with various ad hominem and/or scurrilous claims about @amnesty and @citizenlab. Quickly the threads got a lot of engagement
3/ However the engagement was suspicious for a number of reasons
a) It was extremely rapid considering the poor content
b) There were numerous identical and generic replies like 'good job' and '👍👍'
c) Accounts would reply generically to each tweet in the thread - which is
Thread 1/ For Sudan and Gulf watchers. Below is a brief analysis of a 'Sudanese' sockpuppet network that includes at least 26 accounts. It seems to exist mostly to promote the UAE's role in #Sudan, and occasionally have swipes at the Muslim Brotherhood. #disinformation
2/ The accounts are old Twitter accounts have been bought or hacked. Many are as old as 2009, but only have around 50 tweets or so. They were repurposed in around December 2021, a few weeks prior to the resignation of Sudanese PM Abdalla Handok
3/ Some still have their old names, such as Will Reed 73 (aka Halla Mashael) or Sexy Thickums (aka Manasik Omer).Again, most are pictures of attractive women with good quality banner photos depicting Sudan. This 'influencer' aesthetic is likely to drive engagement #disinformation
🧵[Thread] 1/ I have detected a Somalia-focused sockpuppet network spreading pro-UAE, anti-Qatar and anti-Turkish propaganda on Twitter and Reddit. However, their main efforts are criticizing Somalia President Farmajo, and supporting Prime Minister Roble 👉 #disinformation
2/ The network consists of around 30-40 sockpuppet accounts. Like other networks I have documented recently, many of the images feature attractive young millenial/gen z types with fairly professional headshots. They all use Twitter Web App, and tweet in Somali, English or Arabic
3/ Below is a typical sample of a lot of the content from the network. Anti-Farmajo, pro-Roble, pro-UAE, anti-Turkey, and anti-Qatar. The accounts all post banal or trivial influencer-type content between their political posts, for that instagrammable spice 🌶️ #disinformation
[Thread] 1/ What follows is an examination and identification of a MENA sockpuppet network I've been following for some time. Unlike crude bot networks for hire, this one has a clear anti-Erdogan, anti-Muslim Brotherhood and pro-authoritarian agenda. #disinformation
2/ The first notable thing about this network is that it's almost exclusively run by accounts with photos of attractive young Arab women. Very catfish-esque. It was probably bigger at one point, but in October 2020 there were around 64 of these accounts. The photos are
3/ presumably to drive engagement. But there is also the danger that the images were designed to facilitate phishing through honey traps. The accounts largely follow the same modus operandi. They have a scenic image of an Arab country as their banner image. They post touristic
