Manitoba announced a 5-patient decrease in the number of #COVID19 hospitalizations and 15 more deaths over 3 days ending Monday, Feb. 7, 2022.

MB #COVID19 patients in hospital: 702 (down 5)

In ICU: 47 (down 5)

Total patients in ICU (COVID and non-COVID): 109 (up one)

New confirmed cases today: 258 (understated due to limited testing)

Total COVID deaths since March 2020: 1,600 (equal to the population of Russell, Man.)

COVID deaths per 100,000 people over the week ending Sunday, by province:

Quebec: 3.3
NB: 3.3
Manitoba: 3.0
Ontario: 2.8
Alberta: 2.3
Sask: 1.9
NS: 1.6
NL: 1.5
BC: 1.5
PEI: 1.2

Bottom line today:

1. More evidence hospital patient burden has in fact pleateaued
2. Since hospitalizations are a lagging indicator, even more convincing evidence transmission rate started dropping in January

Issue going forward is the decay rate in hospitalizations.

Hope is even a slow decline in patient burden will continue even if infections increase after restrictions are loosened.

Latter effect *could* be minimal, as Manitoba didn't close down all indoor spaces this wave.
