Trans rights, especially those of trans youth, are still under attack in the United States. Here's a thread of today's updates. 🧵
Yesterday was the last day for WA HB1556 to be passed out of committee, so it is officially dead and Washington is officially removed from our watchlist of states. 🎉
Indiana HB1041 was referred to the Senate Education and Career Development Committee. This bill has a hearing in TWO DAYS, on 2/9 at 1:30 pm EST. This is an anti-trans sports bill that prohibits "biological males" from playing in women and girl's sports.
Oklahoma SB1100 was introduced and referred to the Health and Human Services Committee. This bill is an "emergency" bill that disallows any birth certificate to have any designation other than male or female, legally erasing nonbinary and intersex people.
Oklahoma SB1164 was also introduced and referred to the Education Committee. This bill is a school level bathroom bill that would require schoolchildren only use bathrooms matching their "biological sex", as determined by anatomy at birth.
Oklahoma HB3240 was also introduced. This bill would ban trans-affirming medical care for all minors. It also declares all money paid or used for transition (for anyone, not just minors) to be non tax deductible. This, in effect, prevents insurance companies from covering TAMC.
Oklahoma SB2 was brought back from last session and is in the House. This bill is an anti-trans sports bill which would ban "males" from participating in "female sports". It does not define how these categories are to be determined.
It's not too late to stop these and other hateful bills. Please visit transformationsproject.org to learn more about anti-trans legislation being considered in your state, and reach out to your representatives to #StepUpForTransKids!
*Correction. This bill would only make money paid or used for transition for minors non tax-deductible. We apologize for this error.
