Today I visited the #TamarackFire burn scar, where @NvDOW and @NevDCNR’s Division of Forestry are working to restore over 8,000 acres with plants, trees & flowers that benefit wildlife and are more resilient to the impacts of climate change, drought, and wildfire.
This is truly impressive work. I had the opportunity to ride-along as agencies used an NDF helicopter to spread 71,400 pounds of wildfire-resilient seedlings across the landscape from the air!
Without taking strategic action to restore and re-seed the area with fire-resilient plants and trees, much of the landscape would likely convert to cheatgrass, making the area even more susceptible to annual catastrophic wildfire in the future.
I applaud @NvDOW, @NevDNCR and federal partners for collaborating on this important restoration project, which will protect NV families, community infrastructure, and critical habitat for native wildlife species like mule deer and sage-grouse.
This is a shining example of tangible, on-the-ground action that strengthens NV’s long-term resilience to wildfire, drought, & other climate change impacts. Restoring rangeland health also enhances wildlife habitat, outdoor recreation opportunities, grazing & tribal resources.

Good morning, I wanted to take a moment to update you all on where we are with the status of COVID-19 in our communities. You can follow my live press conference on my YouTube channel here: youtube.com/channel/UC3DFs…
We have seen a rapid decline in case numbers, coupled with declining hospitalizations, a drop in #COVID19 detected in wastewater, a broader availability of testing, and an increase in available treatments.
We reported our first Omicron case two months ago. Nevada recorded our single highest day of new cases on January 10 with 7,865 cases. We’re currently averaging around 1,280 cases per day.

Today, members of the Interim Finance Committee approved the first Community Recovery Grants. I want to thank lawmakers & my team for ensuring we invest these federal dollars back into the community through programs that will have an immediate effect on the lives of Nevadans.
The first non-profits to receive funds include:

The Family Support Center, located in Winnemucca. The $153,764 grant will help the center reduce wait times and serve additional clients. The organization provides community-based, outpatient mental health and wellness services.
The Food Bank of Northern Nevada, located in Sparks. The $629,026 grant will go toward the equitable outreach program. The Food Bank currently serves more than 107,000 individuals every month, almost half of whom are children and seniors.

I was grateful for the opportunity to send a short video message for @NatlGovsAssoc’s Virtual Apprenticeship Event Series Kickoff. I am thankful for their continued support of governors and apprenticeship programs throughout our nation.
Apprenticeships provide a critical talent pipeline that can train & build up our workforce to address our nation’s pressing issues.

That’s why Nevada was thrilled to serve as a mentor state for the last 2 years of @NatlGovsAssoc’s Policy Academy on Scaling Work-Based Learning.
Last summer, I was thrilled to join @SecMartyWalsh in announcing that Nevada was awarded a grant from the Labor Department (@USDOL) to participate in the State Apprenticeship Expansion, Equity, and Innovation program.

First and foremost, on behalf of the great State of Nevada, I would like to thank our brave first responders, local government agencies, and nonprofit entities who continue to go above and beyond to assist our communities during these trying times.
I just finished a briefing with representatives across the Nevada State government, and our federal delegation @MarkAmodeiNV2 and representatives from @SenJackyRosen and @SenCortezMasto’s office. I want to thank them for their leadership.

Today, I was honored and humbled to have received the ‘Charles Dick Medal of Merit Award’ which was presented to me at the National Guard Association of the United States 143rd General Conference & Exhibition in Las Vegas.
While I am honored to be considered alongside Congressman Charles Dick – who was responsible for the passage of the Dick Acts of 1903 & 1908 that established the foundation of the modern National Guard – this award is not about me.
This award is about the incredible men and women who make up the @NVNationalGuard. I cannot think of how Nevada would have fared during the darkest days of the pandemic without the @NVNationalGuard - Or what we would be doing now as we fight wildfires in NNV.

Good afternoon, I wanted to provide some updates for Nevadans as it relates to three requests I made to my Medical Advisory Team. You can follow along my live press conference through @ClarkCountyNV’s YouTube stream here:
Before I provide those updates, I wanted to take a moment to share some encouraging news.

Nevada administered 1,210 doses per 100,000 people last week, 19.3% higher than the national average. Let’s keep it up!
NV administered 1,210 doses per 100,000 people last week, 19.3% higher than the national avg. NV was also first to reinstate indoor masking in areas of substantial & high transmission regardless of vaccination status & we are now seeing a slowing of #COVID19 growth in our State.
