Latest enforcement update from Ottawa Police, 25 arrests and over 1,500 tickets issued related to the convoy. #ottnews #ottcity
126 active investigations are underway.

Work continues with CAS for children present.
Re: Traffic. 12 vehicles have been removed so far. Pete miter still in effect with police presence.

Ottawa Police Chief Peter Sloly is now set to speak momentarily.
Deputy Police Chief Steve Bell will also speak and take questions.
Sloly starts by addressing requests for additional resources to both the federal and provincial government, he call discussions "positive and ongoing."

More resources, he says, means a faster end to this.
Sloly re-iterating numbers above.
"We are making progress and the key to success again, is more resources...." Sloly said.
He tells those planning to come to the city this weekend, "don't"

There will be charges laid in connection to this demonstration, he warns.
"We know the residents of Ottawa are angry, we know you are tired, we know you want your neighbourhoods back. You have suffered and we will be sure those responsible, will face the consequences."
Questions.
Sloly asked about cost of this as it drags on.

Between 700K and 800K per day, continue to increase as more police resources come in. All total costs to date haven't come yet, expects this to be a low estimate.
Asked about timeline of when 're-enforcements' will be here involved in the response, if footprint is expected to be diminished.

Sloly says 250 RCMP officers are continually being sworn in to this point. More public order units from GTA expected in the next 12-24 hours.
OPP is assisting triaging and co-ordinating resources, particularly as other spaces related to the convoy have popped up.
Asked about the rationale of allowing vehicles/encampment at Bronson while trying to end this.

Deputy Bell: Overflow set up at beginning to keep core clear, Convoy told about them. They've now taken up Bronson as hub and they're working to stop through enforcement/negotiation.
Asked about residents perception of enforcement given the lack of diminished footprint. What's the plan to get the trucks out.

Sloly empathizes with residents, they've been terrorized in this process. Says there are now 400 trucks in red zone, day by day they're being removed.
He says more resources will mean more results as they continue combination of enforcement and negations.
In terms of request for 1,800 staff, asked the status of that. OPP co-ordinating law enforcement from other places as well. Doesn't have number but says resources continue to come by the hour. More announcements expected on this over next 24 hours.
Clarifying trucks removed, they are big rigs, not pickups.

Negotiations he says is ongoing and are being told of consequences of enforcement. Expert negotiators on this from across the province.
Sloly: Resources not adequate right now, says as they arrive they will be able to step on enforcement with more boots on the ground.
Sloly says he's spent every day since the start of this demonstration to get more resources.
Says tow drivers and other businesses who have helped to try to help end the demonstration have faced sophisticated online threats and others.

Investigations are underway.
Asked about policing/military background involved in Convoy.

No reluctance to enforce law, they'll keep doing so as more resources are available. (Translation, he doesn't care.)

Re: Capabilities: Says he's talked about sophistication since the start.
He re-iterated these suspicions have been confirmed by National Security Personnel: This a well-funded and sophisticated group.
Expects announcement on resources over the next 24-48 hours. This will sped up end of demonstration, Sloly says.
Re: Swatting Ottawa Police 911 calls.

Says a lot of 911 calls have come from the U.S., not all, investigation ongoing. Says similar things have been happening since the beginning of protest.
MTO is included in discussions, requests for support ongoing, challenging is a number of similar requests from protests across the province.
Asked to address hard line on Wednesday and why arrests haven't been made.

Sloly says arrests are ongoing, says it will continue. Number of investigations underway.

He re-iterates when they get more resources, this will expedite process.
That's it for today's update.

Watching streams tonight from Convoy participants themselves, it’s very clear they believe the silent majority of Ottawa and Canada is behind them.

Many don’t believe police have the authority to arrest them. Supply seizures have been called ‘war crimes.’
Speaking with protestors since the beginning of this, Evan’s experience is a very strong indication of any random sample you take in this crowd.
This is part of the mass complication of dealing with this convoy, one of the many. But how do you reason with people so delusional and irrational to the point enforcing the law?

Ottawa Police giving an update now:

Deputy Chief Steve Bell says 22 arrests, more than 1,300 tickets issued.

Says they continue to cut off logistics and fuel supply. Towing is underway.

He says officers were swarmed during one incident yesterday.
Officers are being briefed on enforcement of the court injunction and their role.
Bell says almost a quarter of the 1,800 trucks here have children living in them. He notes this as a risk during criminal investigations.
