Thread: Here is what makes me tick.

The issue is both political and personal. I survived a series of events over several decades and am now in a position to offer insights to others. The same healing process is directly relevant to world politics, too.

The above YouTube link is to the start of a 14 video playlist on the channel of the highly experienced Texan psychotherapist Les Carter, PhD.

Twitter:
The market has really taken off in recent years for therapists and others offering guidance through YouTube on surviving the behavior of narcissists.

There are many I'd recommend but Dr Carter is the one I most value at the moment.
The pandemic has forced many of us to confront toxic situations in our own lives in order to improve our chances of surviving this historic worldwide crisis.

It's also exposed political and media personalities who try to dominate entire countries with their NPD toxicity.
My increasing understanding of NPD enabled me to eventually recognize that the international far right fascist movement has expanded in the past 30 years and is now the number one threat facing the world.

Many world leaders and those around them have NPD or similar pathology.
This has always been the case. That some world leaders have NPD. The difference in the past 30 years and especially the past decade, is both their ability to target exponentially more people, and that the guardrails of democracy are weaker than they were between 1945 and 1990.
Often when we see how widespread personality disorders like NPD are among those who control our political, military, business, & even charity sectors, we feel pessimistic about our ability to solve such a widespread problem.

But, there's never been a better time to work on it.
The same social media environment that enabled far right fascism to infect so many more people than in the past, can be used to inform and educate in support of the international resistance movement.

And by the way, that movement is not only for "the left." Not at all.
When I ran for the hills away from supporting the Republican party of the USA, I found a very warm welcome in the international resistance mvt.

Almost no one on Twitter has told me I'm not welcome there (as a moderate conservative.) Those that do? I think they're paid trolls.
I've yet to see compelling evidence these naysayers are the organic Twitter accounts of real people, anywhere.

My conclusion (after years of this) is that the bad actors who fund the far right, also fund (some of) the far left, esp. those more active on social media than irl.
Opinions on the >8 year war of aggression by Russia against Ukraine are an excellent bellwether.

And that includes media outlets in NATO member countries like the big newspaper and TV companies, and the AP in the US, for example.
When they say "Russia might invade" they are lying by omission because Russia already invaded in 2014 and stole a big chunk of Ukraine.

When they say unironically "But Russia said they have no plans to invade Ukraine" they are knowingly spreading propaganda on Putin's behalf.
It's like a historical re-enactment club's summer project that acts out German policy on Poland in 1938 and 1939.

And just like it was in our (more or less) democratic countries at that time, most of our media are distorting the facts to fit a narrative THEY desire.
Those in charge of major media companies have an outsized degree of power over public opinion in democratic countries.

And it should stay that way, because it's far better than the alternative.

The best antidote is for you and me to become better educated about it.
In my personal life right now I'm under a lot of pressure to get more ready for when the Omicron variant of Covid peaks in my region of New Zealand. As a #spoonie I don't have as many hours in the day as the average person does. I'm fighting a battle against NPDs in my orbit.
Being a spoonie is why I became active on Twitter in the first place. On days when I have to force myself to rest between bouts of the manual work I love doing (especially outdoors), engaging my mind online helps me balance my energy levels day to day. Physical and emotional.
I used to be able to use the online world of politics as an escape from the depressing reality of #SpoonieLife. The pandemic changed that.

There are fires constantly needing to be put out in both halves of my day to day life. So I found a way to integrate them in my mind.
I didn't consciously do that, ofc. But in hindsight I see that my need to overcome the NPDs who threaten my survival right here in the region where I live, is a lot like the international resistance movement's need to stop the fascist network's advance ASAP.
Both projects have a way of sharpening our focus. I try (& often fail) to ignore distractions in my personal life, & when observing global politics these days.

Anyway, let me know what you think. What can we learn about countering fascism, from the world of NPD recovery?

Thread: Updates on the marvelous #PlatinumJubilee year of my head of state, HM the Queen.

I've written many threads in recent years about the shenanigans of certain recalcitrant family members. This time I bring concerning news of potential exposure to Covid.😟
Obviously I send get well soon wishes for Charles (and Camilla, who is likely to also test positive.)

I'm fiercely loyal the Queen, and Charles, and William. And their consorts were and are incredible, loved, and respected people too.
That color photo above is recent and was released to mark the anniversary of 70 years on the throne, on February 6 this year.

HM is thriving like never before, and she turns 96 on April 21, 2022. The Queen's Birthday celebrations in June each year are timed for summer.

This is true. But also, Ivanka Trump has broken the law of her own accord, multiple times. Trying to count them all would be a huge task.

On 1/6, failing to raise the alarm with any of the LEOs or Pentagon liaison personnel inside the WH is among the worst.

No impunity!
If I know someone has committed or is committing a crime, and I choose asking them nicely not to, instead of reporting it to law enforcement, I would be complicit in that crime.

Yet this is the narrative Ivanka Trump is trying to sell people. That she did all she could.
Everyone in the administration who had knowledge of what the defeated former president planned and carried out that day had a duty to report it *at the time* and to *fully* and voluntarily cooperate with any and all law enforcement and Congressional investigative bodies.

Thread: I find this hilarious on many levels. TFG is so clueless about business and politics that he thought tearing up a piece of paper at his desk would keep said paper out of the the National Archives, the courtroom, and the public domain.🤣

edition.cnn.com/2022/01/31/pol…
It's not all that different from Nixon choosing to record his own conversations as some kind of insurance policy then being forced to hand them to investigators. He even had his secretary claim she accidentally recorded over certain key parts.

Criminals are DUMB.
I've seen people in places I've worked pointlessly tear up paper before putting it in the bin under their desk. It was a sign not to trust them with anything important. My own shredding went through the shredder by my own hand.

Thread: Whoopi Goldberg's lack of education concerning racism

The thing that bothers me the most about her many attempts at clarifying what she said, is that her attitude is just to accept what her critics have said that "corrects" her view.

That is so intellectually lazy.
I think Whoopi Goldberg said this to get the criticism to stop.

What we actually want her to do is spend at least 100 hours quietly studying the facts about the Holocaust and at least 100 hours quietly studying current academic definitions of racism in general.
I spent way more than that number of hours studying these topics in recent years. My reason was so that I could *understand* the issues more deeply & be able to have more informed independent thinking about them.

I'd wager many have done the same in the #BlackLivesMatter era.

Thread: Ukraine, Jan 26, 2022

Just felt like sharing my thoughts on this buffer zone country that we (NATO and friends) need to keep on our side, against Putinism.

EIGHT years after losing a chunk of itself to Putin's Russia, and untold lives.
In the early stages of this (so far) 8 years long conflict, I was pissed af about Putin's aggression in Ukraine, and the apparent inability to stop it and restore lawful boundaries.

Like probably most of us in NATO-world, I then drifted on to following other global issues.
In 2016 I wondered what all the fuss over Putin was about. I had, unwittingly, allowed a brainwashing campaign to affect me. At some time in 2017 I awoke from that nightmare and realized he's not some teddy bear figure we can ignore. Then in 2018 the Skripals were poisoned.

Today Jan 23, 2022 is 2 years, 1 day since I heard about the looming pandemic (see tweet below.) So far in New Zealand only 52 deaths among 5 million of us.

But, today is the official start of our Omicron wave.☹️

But, note our 🔝 vax rates.
NZ is often unique in the world. Our claim to fame this time: largely keeping Covid out of our islands for two years.

Skill, character, and luck were involved. Not just the luck of geographic distance. We had to work hard, and we did.
Pandemic response geeks like me will watch NZ over the next 60 days with interest.

We're very highly vaccinated, at the start of the Omicron wave. Granted, our boosters program is lagging, but our 2-shots rate got up to 95% before 5-11s became eligible LAST WEEK.
