Writing well gets you ahead of 94% of people in life.

But your English teacher failed you.

7 powerful lessons to turn you into a skilled writer:
1. Be specific

Specificity makes your claims 10x more believable.

Save more → Instantly save 34%

Lose weight → Lose 6lb in 9 weeks

Make money → Earn an extra $420 a month

Broad is boring; specificity sells.
2. Abolish adverbs

Don’t write: “The stove was very warm.”

Write: “The stove was hot.”

Don’t write: “He ran quickly.”

Write: “He sprinted.”

Skilled writers are concise with their words.
3. Use power words

Studies show, words that evoke emotion are more likely to be shared.

Tell me, what’s more engaging?

“I felt bad when he said my name.”

Or

“I cringed when he screamed my name.”

Use the website “Power Thesaurus” to transform boring words into powerful ones.
4. Turn many words into dense ones

Once a day → daily

Hard to do → difficult

Something new → Novel

Made the choice → Chose

People you didn’t know → Strangers

Use the right words and you won’t waste words.
5. Show, don’t tell

Shorter isn't always better.

“He was nervous.”

vs.

“The man’s throat tightened as sweat trickled down his forehead.”

Longer? Yes.

But it’s easy to visualize, making it more engaging.
6. Avoid passive voice

Your brain has to use more effort to understand passive voice.

Example:

“The book was read by the boy.”

Turns into:

“The boy read the book.”

See how it’s strong and concise now?
7. Delete “that”

Which sounds stronger?

“The word isn’t that descriptive.”

or

“The word isn’t descriptive.”

Always ask yourself what you can remove and still get your point across.

1 year ago today, I started this Twitter account.

Since then, I’ve gained 20,000 followers, became self-employed, and made tens of thousands of dollars.

Here’s what I learned and how you can do the same:

--Thread-- Image
When I first started on Twitter, I struggled.

I tweeted every day, but only grew to 750 followers in 3 months.

But then I bought a Twitter growth course and realized what my account was missing…
A niche.

I tried to talk about everything.

And when you talk to everybody, nobody wants to listen.

So I created a new account (this one) and niched down to writing.

1. Write conversationally

Lemme tell ya somethin’…

Academic writing may get you good grades, but it sounds robotic.

So don’t be afraid to break the rules with your words.

Academically correct?
Nah.

Sound human?
Yup.

People want conversations, not lectures.
2. Simplicity over complexity

You can't communicate if your reader is confused.

So write below a 5th grade level.

Utilization → Use

Endeavour → Try

Idiosyncratic → Distinct

People shouldn't require a dictionary to read your writing.

Everything you see on the internet involves writing

And with 4.66 billion people using the internet, it's easy for your message to get lost

But by the end of this thread, you'll be able to clarify your message and stand out from everyone else

Let's get into it👇
1. Write Like a 5th Grader

49% of Americans can't read a book past an 8th-grade level.

Keep your words simple.

Don't say "Utilize" when you can say "Use".

Don't say "Affirmative" when you can say "Yes".

The bigger your words, the smaller your audience.
