THREAD: Releasing the names of DougCo Schools teachers absent from school during a protest continues a trend of conservative leaders in Douglas County seeking the names, and sometimes addresses, of perceived opponents: teachers, public health workers, and journalists. #copolitics
DougCo Schools is required to comply with an open records request to release names of teachers absent on the protest day (expected to include teachers absent for other reasons). Fmr DA @GeorgeBrauchler said parents should be able to "confront" them.
In 2020, the head of Parker Republicans, Mark Hall, posted the names and addresses of public health workers in retaliation for COVID-19 restrictions.
One of the first to join the Facebook group dedicated to doxxing public health workers was GOP county commissioner @LoraThomasCO, who later said she was unaware of the group's mission.
In 2020, Commissioner @LoraThomasCO encouraged supporters to look up the names of local public health workers who made political donations during her race.
In 2020, then House GOP Minority Leader, now State Rep. @PatrickForCO doxxed a Denver Post reporter, publishing his home address, in retaliation for an article.
Flanked by Republican elected officials and candidates in 2020, conservative leader Joe Oltmann of Douglas County warned journalists, “We’re coming for you… If you’re part of the media and you write something bad about us, better take your byline off it.” coloradotimesrecorder.com/2020/10/fec-un…
Oltmann's group, FEC United, is a force in Colorado politics, including school board races. Current @cologop chairwoman @ColoradoKbb, who later led FEC United, once proposed creating an FEC United legal group to "intimidate the Left, literally."
Attempts to publicly identify perceived rank-and-file political opponents, often through legal means such as open records requests and political donation searches, and further efforts to publish their home addresses, come amid threats against the targeted groups.
A man who threatened employees at Tri-County Health Department, told me he was sending "warning signals to elected officials." Police decided his threat was not credible.

Near Douglas County, JeffCo and Cherry Creek school boards held meetings in secured locations in recent weeks after threats from people upset about face masks and Black Lives Matter. Littleton's superintendent was threatened with death over vaccinations. 9news.com/article/news/l…
Last month in Denver, a man angry about Critical Race Theory, entered an elementary school criticized on Fox News Channel and yelled at staff and parents. 9news.com/video/news/loc…
And then there's the political turmoil DougCo Schools has seen in recent years. Board meetings often turn heated. Last year, a former school board candidate claimed the progressive school board had a sniper on the roof "because you fear the parent voice."
This was a long thread. All of this is just to say that attempts to publicly identify perceived political opponents like teachers is becoming a trend in Douglas County and it happens at a time when the rhetoric surrounding schools is very inflamed. (end of thread)

UPDATE: The names of DougCo Schools employees who requested an absence on the day of a Feb 3 protest against the school board will be made public tomorrow, according to a letter the district sent to teachers and staff.
A letter from the district tonight notified teachers and staff who requested absences. The letter, provided to 9NEWS by several district employees, does not say who requested the information under the Colorado's Open Records Act.
DougCo Schools notified teachers and staff it plans to release information "which includes your name" but did not specify if that also includes where employees work and why they requested time off on Feb 3 (sick child, bereavement, sick day, personal time, etc).

NEW: Republican Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters is speaking tonight at an FEC United event in Castle Rock alongside founder Joe Oltmann who has called for the mass hanging of political opponents, including Governor Polis. #copolitics
Clerk Peters entered to a thunderous standing ovation from the crowd. FEC United, which has an affiliated militia wing, has collected signed loyalty pledges from a number of elected Republicans in Colorado and was previously led by @cologop chair @ColoradoKbb.
@cologop @ColoradoKbb Tonight's event also features former University of Colorado Boulder visiting conservative scholar John Eastman, who advised the Trump legal team on how to overturn the 2020 election. Eastman has said he will defy a subpoena from the Jan 6 select committee.

UPDATE: Adams County's Democratic Sheriff @RickReigenborn is running for re-election and eluding @Marshall9News' questions about his decision to join a car chase, livestream it, and keep chasing when other officers said it was too dangerous to continue. #copolitics
@RickReigenborn @Marshall9News Some of the questions that @AdamsCoSheriff would not answer:
The Adams County Sheriff's office now says Sheriff @RickReigenborn's mystery wingman during the livestreamed car chase was a former radio broadcaster named "Tim Sheley." Tim Shiely is better known as @thescootermcgee, a former talk radio host and conspiracy theorist.

Peters struggled with and appeared to kick at an officer as law enforcement attempted to serve a search warrant on Tuesday. Prosecutors say Peters used an iPad to improperly record a court proceeding and lied to a judge about it, a potential felony.
Peters faces additional local and federal investigations for the breach of Mesa County’s secured voting systems.

NEW: An arrest warrant has been issued for Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters for a misdemeanor charge of Obstructing a Peace Officer. This is in addition to the felony investigation that prompted the confrontation. #copolitics
The affidavit in support of the arrest warrant says Peters interfered with officers and attempted to kick an officer, striking her Taser and magazine pouch on her belt. "I told the suspect, 'Do not kick! Do you understand!?'" an officer recounted.
The affidavit says Peters was resisting and going limp. This is seen on a video of the incident where an officer tells Peters, "Stand up like an adult." Peters responded, "Shut up! What an asshole thing to say to me."
