Let me take you on a trip through justice land

Police initially investigated #AhmaudArbery's death as a burglary/self defense case

The 1st Prosecutor failed to charge the men who killed Arbery

Video was later released. Public outcry erupted

So Georgia's AG stepped in (1/4)
The AG appoint another prosecutor

That prosecutor had to recuse himself

Allegedly he'd initially said he didn't see any grounds to arrest those "involved in Mr. Arbery’s death"

So a prosecutor from another county got the case
within weeks the video was made public 2/4
He called the GBI

Eventually a prosecutors from another part of the state took over

The case ended in a jury resoundingly convicting all three of Murder. BUT...

The case was not over.
Federal investigators said the men had violated #AhmadArbery’s Civil rights…
The Feds said they targeted Arbery in part because he was black.
But the Feds offered his now convicted murderers a plea deal.
The killers could serve their state conviction in federal prison if they pleaded to federal crimes.
The men agreed as Federal prison is easier to handle
#AhmaudArbery’s family cried out in protest.
And …

The Federal judge said the NO to the plea deal.

Arbery's murderers decided to take their chances.

They let a jury decide.

The jury saw the words they used to talk about black folks, the N-word was a favorite.
The Federal jury determined the 3 men were guilty of the federal Hate Crimes they were charged with.

And just think

This case may never have even ended in even an arrest if it wasn’t for video, the family & their attorneys demands

And the public insistence on justice. THE END

Enough w the apologies by Minnesota's Governor about police "misconduct" toward journalists. We heard this 1 year ago when @OmarJimenez was arrested live. This year a officer throws down our producer who is AAPI & keeps asking "do you speak" english.(1)

What does that tell you about the mentality of the officer who arrested her for doing her job? This isn't a learning curve. It is a choice. Do something about it. Also #StopAsianHate #BrooklynCenter #DaunteWright
Plus police were taking photos of journalists credentials but would not say why. The governor said that would not happen again.
Also noting that Independent journalist have a much harder time fighting these measures. They don’t have the money or the organization to back them.

I arrive to this. Another mother mourns a child. #DaunteWright was killed by police during a traffic stop. Again police must explain their use of deadly force, again the community doesn't trust them, riots ensue. Rage uncorked during #DerekChauvinTrial

As usual we as reporters have to wait to see the details. Did the officer fear for her life? Was there a good reason for the fear? Or was it a rash decision? But in the interim we can never lose site of the fact that a young man is dead and a family is in mourning.
You don’t often see body cam video this early. The police chief said it was the right thing to do for transparency. Police pulled #DaunteWright over for expired tags. Police try to cuff him, he pulls away jumps in the car. The door is open. Female officer yells taser but uses gun

For any human working or watching the #DerekChauvinTrial it’s emotionally draining especially if you’ve been following the #GeorgeFloyd story from the start. Thanks to @dbauder who told my secret weapon (anyone can use) for dealing w stress. 🐕 🐶

apnews.com/article/race-a…
Since y’all are asking my secret weapon to dissipate stress is petting dogs. Any dog. All dogs. Other people’s dogs. Every time I get a chance. Like This dog. He’s is someone else’s dog. I seek them out and their owners always oblige! Image
Full disclosure. Sometime I go to dog parks even though I don’t have a dog. I just act like I belong. Just to be around dogs for a few moments. I travel too much to have a dog so that’s my secret.
