A lot of people in BC are more than a little annoyed that we are in the running to be the last province to lift COVID mandates and vax passports. I'm annoyed too but there is one upside, this reveals the whole thing as purely political. #honkhonk 1/
Back when the mask mandate came in it was an order from the Attorney General rather than the PHO. And it was in response to a request from the BC Retailers' Association, not the public health community. So, political. #honkhonk 2/
The vax passes were not about health either. They were about "incentivizing" people to get the jabs. Jabs which did nothing to prevent infection or transmission and, were essentially useless against Omicron. So, political. #honkhonk 3/
Premier Horgan and the NDP know their audience. The teachers, librarians, public servants, HR gals (and they are all gals), Health care administrators and the laptop classes very much enjoy the privileges vax status gives them. #honkhonk 4/
But privileges are not privileges if everyone has them, so the vax pass and mandates continue long after they served any health purpose. Right now the vax Karens are still a powerful majority in BC and Horgan is not about to offend them. #honkhonk 5/
This will go on a bit longer - likely until after the BC school Spring break ends March 24. As health has nothing to do with the mandates or passes, Horgan will pick the politically most opportune moment to end them. #honkhonk 6/
Cynical? Yup. From the go politics has played a huge role in the BC response to COVID and there is no reason to think anything but politics will end that response. Spring is Coming! #honkhonk 7/7
