A thought about Boebert and MTG, inspired by my mother-in-law.

Recently, my MIL recounted a “hilarious” story to my husband. It involved her other son getting into a screaming match with an airport security guy. 1/
During the screaming- where my brother-in-law used some racist slurs and was totally at fault- my formerly mild-mannered in-laws were laughing. They were proud to have upset an apparent immigrant trying to do his job. 2/
All the horror that the rest of us feel about the idiot twins showing disrespect during the #SOTU is not felt by people suckered into the cult of hate. I’m sure they think it was hysterical at the least, laudable at the best. /end

So I got kicked out of a Starbucks tonight. Sort of. Let me set the scene:

This suburban Starbucks is not full, but my group of 6 moms is the oldest group there by 2 decades. We are planning the events for 8th grade graduation.
I will not lie; we are the largest group that is actually conversing. Most tables have studying teens & college students.

We are in the back room where there is only one other occupied table of studying teens.
The teens could move away from us, but they don’t.

A barista young enough to be one of our kids comes from the front & tells us that people in front are complaining about how loud we are.

We are shocked.

So I'm all grouchy and cranky because of all the fuckers of the world, but I'd like to share a story that I hope will make you smile because it made me laugh so hard I cried last night. It was the annual middle school band concert (my boys were wonderful, of course, as was +
my daughter at the high school concert the night before) and there was an unexpectedly long pause because one of the 7th graders needed a new part for his saxophone. The band director gamely tried to keep the audience entertained and solicited jokes from the students on stage. +
Two 8th graders gamely shared the some very family appropriate jokes and after no one else joined in, the band director turned to the audience. A tiny, piping voice called from the balcony, "I have a joke!" We all turned to look at a preschooler peering over the railing, +
