Alright mfers, grab your ⌐◨-◨ and come !vibe with me.

Today, we run to seize the memes of production (h/t @punk6529).

In web3, retail will control the narratives.

My thoughts on CC0, counterculture, & minimum viable memes 👇
1/ It's amazing to see how well the Apes, Doodles, and other 10k-Punk type communities are doing.

The blue chips in the NFT pfp space are dominated by projects with a core team rigorously executing on a roadmap.
2/ I personally own a Doodle and aspire to have a Punk and/or Ape in my collection one day.

This category of NFTs are incredibly valuable and have showed us that pfp communities are here to stay.
3/ However, I believe the roadmap & core-team model is getting a bit overdone.

The NFT pfp space is starting to get repetitive and boring.

Wen roadmap? Wen collab? Wen whitelist?

It's becoming less about creativity and more about who can create hype.
4/ Rug pulls are becoming common and are scaring away newcomers in the space.

Just spit out a unique or wholesome mission statement with a few dates tossed around...and boom rOaDmAp.

Kevin perfectly memes the "get rich quick" vibe that's growing in NFTs right now.
5/ To me, 10k pfp collections today are a copy paste of web2 business models + NFTs.

1. Core team (c-suite) driving the ship.

2. Then some community managers (VPs) in the middle.

3. Community super fans (long time employees)

4. Half-engaged community members (employees).
6/ I'm personally spending more time looking into what's next in the NFT space.

A couple of events recently led me to get super excited about CC0 NFT collections.

CC0 = Creative Commons License which is the most open copyright agreement.

Anyone can use a creator's work freely.
7/ These projects focus on open source brands that are for the people and by the people.

Public goods through NFTs.

8/ A few weeks ago, I was watching the Super Bowl and saw Budweiser's ad collab with @nounsdao.

It was crazy to me that a project with no roadmap was delivering on such a high level.

9/ Then after that, I found myself getting super excited about the #mfers.

The anti-roadmap zeal, unofficial discord, derivatives, etc. were all working.

It was finally starting to make sense why something as memey as a mfer had so much potential.

10/ 2017-2021 were focused on the Punks model.

I believe 2022 onwards, we'll see a lot more eyes on top CC0 crypto native projects.

These projects represent counterculture in the NFT pfp space.

The focus is less on delivery and more on inspiration.

11/ Think of CC0 NFT projects as memes.

Internet memes we know today start off as a simple image with text, video, catchphrase, etc.

If there is a deeper, shared meaning in that meme, the community will automatically build on it.

12/ How many versions of the meme below have you seen in the last few years?

My guess...probably a decent amount.

The more the meme is used or shared, the more it becomes a part of internet culture.
13/ The best CC0 NFT collections will start as simple memes and grow into prolific brands.

How?

Creators and hackers will quickly start building all sorts of work on top of the NFTs they enjoy.

Why?

Because it's permissionless and easy to do so.

14/ 10k NFT PFP: Minimum Viable Community

CC0 NFT Brands: Minimum Viable Meme

A meme powerful enough will find its super fans and grow on its own.

No need to be prescriptive.
15/ Projects like the nouns, mfers, and toadz are antifragile - their growth is independent of a core team delivering on a roadmap & building a community.

These projects are focused on creating the deepest rooted brands in society.

16/ The vibe at the beginning of CC0 projects seem more like organized chaos to me.

But if there is enough building & shipping, the brand eventually finds "meme market fit".

At that point, the NFT is unstoppable and the universe (i.e. Nounverse) starts to grow rapidly.
17/ What started off as a funny meme eventually turns out to be an entire movement.

Soon, these NFT projects will have creator ecosystems way larger than what we see today with iOS.

18/ In the coming years:

- Web2 CFOs will be working on getting btc & eth on balance sheets.

- Web2 CMOs will be focused on interacting with CC0 NFT brands in an easy and frictionless way.
19/ To clarify, this is not to say that non-CC0 projects will die off in the ecosystem.

Both models are fantastic in their own ways and tremendous value to the space.

However, for me, the future of CC0 NFT collections and their potential is a lot more fun to think about.
20/ The NFT space is getting toxic in the sense that everyone is focused on Discord #'s, perfect roadmaps, celeb affiliations, etc.

However, it's memelords like @sartoshi_nft & @supergremplin that remind us all it's okay to just be a mfer or !vibe.
21/ If you're a builder in the NFT space, just remember that not every project has to be done by a dream team and executed properly.

To me, it's important to keep the culture in web3 meme like and fun.

23/ If you're working on a CC0 NFT collection, feel free to message me!

Would love to chat and see what you're up too.

They're only getting started, and I'm excited to see what marketing classes will start to look like in a couple of years.
24/ Summary:

- CC0 = creative commons. Permissionless building
- CC0 NFT collections grow in meme like behavior
- Minimum Viable Meme
- NFTs as Deep rooted brands
- Open source & NFT verse composability
- CCO projects represent counterculture in the NFT pfp space

Please welcome Azuki 9613 to the garden ⛩️

I was able to raise 17.41 eth from 20 skaters to buy the incredible @AzukiZen. 8/20 bought their first NFT!

Fractional NFTs increase market liquidity, democratize NFTs, & empower sub-communities.

Here's a primer on fractionalization👇
1/ Early January, my friend @madagraye told me they were excited about an upcoming NFT collection called the Azuki.

If you’ve spent just 5 mins on crypto Twitter this past month, there’s a solid chance you’ve seen an @AzukiZen pop up in your feed.
2/ Unfortunately, I was a bit too late to explore the garden.

I loved the art, core team, and discord vibes so much but just didn’t have enough liquidity to get one myself.

The only option left was to ask friends if they’d want to pitch in.

gm, fun life update!

Super excited to start a new role today.

I’ll be joining @chapterone as head of experiments & research 🎉

Thrilled to be working with @jmj, @menemazarakis & the incredible team.

My job is to be the crazy scientist at Chapter One.

Here's the rundown 👇 Image
1/ There is an endless amount of research and building left to do in web3.

Web3 is not just a copy paste of web2 with “DAO” added at the end.
2/ There are patterns, data, and ideas still buried deep in the ecosystem.

It’s our job as a community to go looking for these gold mines.

Upcoming protocols have the potential to be 11x more impactful than even companies like Facebook and Uber.

2021 has been one hell of a year for me.

1) Embraced the nomad lifestyle & stayed in 7 cities

2) Quit my job in web2

3) Wrote 30+ threads on web3

4) Recently signed a new role in web3 (sharing soon 👀)

For my last thread of the year, I wanted to share my 5 favorite posts 👇
1/ First is my web3 P&P mega-thread.

To me, web3 is just like the iOS app store.

I picked 10 different products/protocols and did deep dives on why they're so cool!

2/ Next, I wanted to share a thread on 11 reasons why web3 is the future.

If you're trying to get into crypto but are still unsure as to why, then this thread is perfect for you!

gm! New pfp 👀

I believe @chain_runners is going to be the next blue chip NFT collection.

Runners = Punks + Artblocks + Nouns

The project is relatively new, but already gaining so much momentum.

Here's why 👇

1/ Early last week, @faraaznishtar got me hooked on the Runners.

I saw that the floor price was starting to 🚀 last night and decided to write this thread.

To understand the importance of Chain Runners, let's start at the beginning.

2/ In June 2017, Matt Hall and John Watkinson (Larva Labs team) released the CryptoPunks.

The punks drop initiated the craziness of the NFT world we know today.

In fact, the ERC-721 standard released in January 2018 was inspired by the success of the Punks.

It took me a while to understand why web3 is so important.

Now, I'm pretty much addicted.

Here are 11 reasons why I decided to go all in 👇

1/ Incentives

Web2:
1) Growth Stage: Platforms ❤️ Users
2) Post IPO: Platforms 💔 Users

Decentralized protocols give all network participants upside through tokens.

Protocols serve the community; platforms serve the shareholders.

Web3 aligns incentives.

(h/t @cdixon)
2/ Portability

- Web2 users don't own their data, they rent profile pages from platforms (hard for users to leave)

- Web3 keeps data & infrastructure separate which enables data portability

- Data Permanence & Immutability
