We’ve all been there…

No motivation, momentum dead, effectively de-railed.

Call it a rut, call it burnout…

Whatever you call it, it sucks.

But even though we’ve been here before, somehow we still don’t have a go-to game plan for bouncing back.

That’s a problem.
The thing is, there’s no one size fits all solution.

Recharging looks different for everyone.

You need to find out what works for you.

By the end of this thread, you’ll know exactly what to do next time you take a nosedive.

1. Schedule

The thing about burnout is that you don’t see it coming.

It sorta just sneaks up on you.

One day you sit down to work on your thing, and the gears just don’t turn.

By that time it’s too late.

You’re burnt.
There’s no point in having a Re-Charge Ritual if you don’t do it preemptively.

In other words, not after you already reach the point of no return.

Daily, weekly, monthly — pick a schedule and stick to it.

Address burnout before it addresses you.
2. Recharge Activities

I said “recharge” not “relax”.

This is where most people go wrong.

A recharge is not a prescription to sit on the couch and watch Netflix for 6 hrs.

The purpose of this exercise is to ADD energy back in…

Not to take more away.
Make a list of the types of activities that inspire and excite you.

Listen to a podcast
Read a book
Go for a hike

For me, a macro-level strategy session at my favorite coffee shop always gets me going.

Take some time to think about the things that revitalize you.
3. Anti-Activities

What you do during your re-charge is important.

But so is what you don’t.

Make a no-go list of things that tend to sap your energy.

Emails, errands, even specific people.

(Say it with me: “Mom, I love you, but not right now.”)
5. Reflect

Once you’re sufficiently recharged, don’t just dive back in.

Take a minute to ask yourself what’s going on.

Are you just overwhelmed?

Or is your body trying to tell you something?
Consider these questions:

Am I really working on the right thing?

Am I trying to do too much at once?

What are my priorities and what can I say no to?

What changes can I make to avoid burnout in the future?
If you’re an ambitious person, burnout is just part of the game…

It’s inevitable.

If it hasn’t hit you yet, it will.

Don’t be blind-sided.

Be proactive now and put the pieces in place.

Your goals —and your future self— will thank you.
