My translation of #MarinaOvsyannikova's statement.

She was reportedly detained immediately after her brave on-air protest. 1/ What is happening in Ukraine right now is a crime and Russia
Posting again, fixed a typo and made the font bigger
UPDATE about Marina: she is held in the duty room of the Ostankino TV center, according to her lawyer Daniil Berman, who is not allowed to see her.

Several police cars are parked outside the Ostankino building.
#Ukrainian President @ZelenskyyUa thanked #MarinaOvsyannikova:

“I am thankful to the Russians that don’t stop trying to tell the truth […]. And personally to the young woman who entered the Channel One TV studio with an anti-war poster.”
UPDATE 🚨: Russian authorities are considering charging #MarinaOvsyannikova with FELONY right away under Article 207.3 of the new war censorship law.

This means she can get 10-15 years in jail.

NEW: #MarinaOvsyannikova is found in Moscow court with lawyer Anton Gashinskiy!

Marina has been held overnight at police station and is now potentially facing felony charges for her bravery.

Last fall, @Apple and @Google pulled the #Russian opposition voter guide app just before the election.

Now we know why: Russia sent FSB thugs to threaten executives with prison.

Three lessons, a THREAD:

2/Lesson 1: #Putin will hold anyone who he can hostage to his whims. Instead of pushing back, Big Tech capitulated. Yet here we are only a few months later and he’s declared @Meta an extremist & is blocking everyone else…

aljazeera.com/opinions/2021/…
3/ Lesson 2: You can’t stop #Putin with appeasement. Tech companies charted a course that they felt protected their staff & balanced their interests. But it didn’t even buy them six extra months of operation before Putin went scorched earth.

BREAKING: @Apple and @Google just simultaneously pulled Russian opposition voting guide app on election morning.

It gets worse. THREAD 1/

Reuters: reuters.com/world/europe/g… Image
2/ The app @Google & @Apple just shut down helped Russians that disagree with Putin find candidates to vote for.

The very definition of democratic process.

Both companies knew it.

For once, Putin was afraid too.

3/ Russia has tried everything to get the app pulled.

A spurious trademark lawsuit, legal threats...

@Google and @Apple knew exactly what was going on.

And, until this morning, they resisted.

BREAKING: Bloomberg investigation confirms @Sandvine had been working with Belarus gov for more than a year & provided tech that is filtering about 40% of all internet traffic moving in and out of the country. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
.@Sandvine rep also met directly with officials in Belarus and later shipped the equipment, via a contractor, to be installed at data centers in Minsk. Senator @DickDurbin is concerned this might be a potential violation of US sanctions & is calling for @USTreasury to investigate
In company’s defense, @Sandvine’s Chief Tech Officer Alexander Haväng
said that even though Belarus may be using the company’s equipment to block websites & messaging apps, the internet, and access to specific material on websites, wasn’t “a part of human rights.”
