1) Global COVID-19 thread for March 18.
2) Cases and deaths from Covid-19 have fallen in US, but warning signs & rising infections in other countries, prompt experts to take future & existing variants of the virus seriously – and they are warning that America has not yet reached the endemic phase.
3) ⬆️ numbers of people entering H w/Covid are leading to other patients becoming infected, staff absences, delayed operations & long waits in ERs, experts have said.

In recent weeks, Covid infection levels have been ⬆️ in UK
and hospitalizations are also ⬆️.

5) ML China COVID-19 news.
6) Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam called on residents to promptly report positive results of home Covid tests or face legal consequences, amid reports that Hong Kong’s sweeping outbreak is being under-counted.
7) Based on the data for Epidemiology Week (ME) 1/2022 to ME 10/2022, the fatality rate of those aged 80 and above stood at 2,000 cases per 100,000 people, vs 300 to 600 cases among individuals aged 60 to 79.
8) 199 of 27,004 new Covid-19 cases reported March 17 were in categories three to five, said Health DG-Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

12) On March 18, total of 2,505 of Tokyo's 7,229 covid beds were filled, taking percent of beds in use to 34.7%. 18.5% of beds for severe patients in use, w/149 out of 804 available beds filled.

21 COVID-19 deaths reported March 18, and total covid deaths in Tokyo at 4,042.
13) The government formally decided Thursday to lift all remaining coronavirus quasi-state of emergency curbs in Japan as scheduled next week as the number of new infections has recently been on a downtrend.

16) Denmark reported 7,216 cases, including 407 reinfections, and 38 more COVID linked deaths in the last day.

Yesterday there were 38,767 COVID tests done, of which 37,657 were PCR tests equaling a (+) percentage of 19.16%.
