2) Saturday March 19, 2022 :
A) Over 30 companies across the world will soon begin making generic versions of Pfizer’s COVID-19 pill thanks to an agreement negotiated on Thursday. The deal is expected to make the antiviral pill more accessible to the world’s population;
2)(B) Dr. Anthony Fauci is warning of a possible rise in COVID-19 cases in the U.S. due to an increase in BA. 2
sub-variant cases in the UK. Fauci’s warning comes as
U.S. resources to respond to the pandemic dwindle.
2)(C) 1st year of the COVID-19 pandemic saw more Americans drinking heavily or using illegal drugs.

However, cigarette smoking dropped to a new all-time low in 2020, w/1 in 8 adults saying they’re current smokers, as per survey data released Thursday by the CDC;
2)(D) The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,054 new COVID cases on Wednesday and 1,193
on Thursday. It also reported 60 deaths over both days;

Bundestag passed amd to pandemic rules in a 388-277 vote w/2 abstentions. Upper House (🇩🇪 16 states), is expected to consider the measure later Friday;
2)(F) ~35,000 cases of BA.2 have been reported in US,
White House Press Sec Jen Psaki said this week.

CDC data shows that, as of last week, BA.2 accounted for 23.1% of all new COVID cases in the US, up from 13.7% the week before. The original omicron strain remains dominant;
2)(G) Even as authorities lock down cities in China’s worst outbreak in two years, they are looking for an exit from what has been a successful but onerous COVID-19 prevention strategy;
2)(H) Hong Kong cumulative COVID cases exceed 1M-as city grapples w/a widespread outbreak that has killed more than the reported COVID-19 deaths in all of mainland China.

CDC made adjustments to its COVID Data Tracker's mortality data on 3/14, b/c its algorithm accidentally counted non-covid deaths.

12) South Korea reported 381,454 new COVID-19 cases, including 63 from overseas, as per KDCA.

The death toll from COVID-19 came to 12,101, up 319 from Friday.

The number of critically ill patients stood at 1,049, the same as the previous day.
