1/ Today, the @Conservatives Party Conference starts in Blackpool.

While the Tories distract from the rampant #Islamophobia that runs deep within the party, we thought we would remind you of recent events 👇

A thread 🧵
2/ We recently produced a dossier on #Islamophobia within the Tory Party and sent a copy of our submission to the Singh inquiry to all 360 Tory MPs.

The dossier revealed over 30 different MPs, councillors and other senior figures guilty of engaging with anti-Muslim hate online.
3/ Much to our surprise, not one Tory MP engaged with our submission to the Singh inquiry adequately despite the party’s problematic Islamophobic nature.

Read the dossier here 👇

4/ In 2018, the Prime Minister, @BorisJohnson, compared Muslim women to letterboxes and bank robbers.

Hate crimes against Muslims went up 375% the subsequent week.
5/ Last year, MP for Wealden, Nus Ghani, was removed from her ministerial position due to her ‘Muslimness making people uncomfortable’.

The issue of Islamophobia runs deep within the Tory Party. Our recent polling demonstrates this.
6/ We conducted polling on Tory Party members which found almost half of Tory Party members believed Islam “a threat to the British way of life”.

66% of Tory Party members who voted for Boris Johnson believe that “there are no-go areas in Britain where Sharia law dominates”.
7/ It is time for the @Conservatives Party to take accountability.

Write to your MP to ask them to take Islamophobia within the Tory Party more seriously and send them our dossier which outlines their shortcomings when it comes to the issue.

The word p*ki has come back into the public eye, so we thought it might be useful to give a brief overview of the words racist history.

A THREAD 👇🏽🧵
After South Asians were invited by British employers to rebuild post WW2 Britain, many nationalists and members of the public felt their ideal of the majority White Britain disappearing.

Soon came the bullying in the 1960s-1980s which was to be coined ‘P*ki-bashing’
These attitudes threatened the livelihoods of immigrants and British Brown residents and were exacerbated by the media and politicians like Enoch Powell.

Our latest report identified 52 authorities where community resilience challenges are most likely to increase due to COVID-19.

Our open letter signed by 25 cllrs from 20 councils suggests 5 ways in which the govt can support these councils. 👇

1. Focus on places and people, to avoid a slow recovery in the areas which can least afford it. A drive to improve resilience must recognise the reasons for economic decline in different areas.
2. Invest in integration, so that communities can be as resilient, optimistic, and open as possible. The past few years have seen major budget reductions when it comes to cohesion and community work.

Just over a year ago, former White Rose player @AzeemRafiq30 first made allegations of institutional racism at the club. The subsequent investigation by @YorkshireCCC found that p*ki is just "good natured banter"

While the report found that it was “not reasonable for Azeem to have been offended”, it did find that Rafiq had been a victim of “racial harassment and bullying”.

The club issued an apology, however were “pleased” to announce that no further disciplinary action would be taken.
"I am proud to support this campaign by HOPE not hate. When investigating racism, the process needs transparency, not only so people know what happened, but so we can learn from it.

I join their call to the @YorkshireCCC to release the investigation’s findings." - @AzeemRafiq30

Tomorrow, @BorisJohnson will be hosting Hungarian PM Victor Orbán in Downing Street. This week Johnson said, “where we have concerns about human rights we do not shy away from raising them”. Here's just some of Orbán's views he should raise...
Orbán’s illiberal, repressive and authoritarian brand of politics has won himself and his party admiration from across the global radical and far right scene, many of whom laud him as a ‘strong leader’ who understands the threat of ‘Islamisation’
hopenothate.org.uk/2018/01/18/vik…
Orbán has seemed happy to have far right support, writing to a Greek Nazi MEP in 2018, he expressed: ‘gratitude for your support’ and ‘wish you ... much success in your highly responsible duties’

Today we remember the tragic murder of George Floyd, but also the inspiring energy that arose in the space that was left. Together we rise to say enough is enough.

An injustice for one is an injustice to all and we stand in solidarity with all those fighting for change.

The renewed momentum of the BLM movement sparked by the death of George Floyd has opened up spaces for a global struggle against racialised violence, oppression and neocolonialism - @jacobinoire

"The anger, pain & despair that poured out in the streets of America were so powerful that they shook the whole world, inspiring solidarity protests in dozens of countries, which gave more ammunition to challenge police state violence and the legacies of colonialism" @jacobinoire
