Shocking news from Kerala. Eminent Mohiniyattam dancer Dr Neena Prasad was literally driven off the stage in the middle of her performance because a local district judge Kalam Pasha was irritated by the show!

Absolutely humiliating!

Wth is happening in Kerala?! 😡
Neena trained in Mohiniyattam for a dozen years under Gurus Kalamandalam Sugandhi and Kshemavathy, in Bharatanatyam under Guru Adyar K. Lakshman for dozen yrs, in Kuchipudi under Vempati Chinna Satyam Garu, and in Kathakali under Vembayam Appukuttan Pillai.

She is not a nobody!
She was invited to perform in Palakkad by an organisation. In the middle of the performance, everything was stopped because this Pasha sent orders via the local police. He was apparently irritated by the performance. Neena and her group of dancers had to leave.
If this is the treatment given to such eminent artistes like Neena, wonder how much more is meted out to normal people!

What authority does this Pasha have to insult an artiste and bully his way to get a performance stopped midway?!

😡
Neena has an MA in English lit, a PhD from Rabindra Bharati University for her thesis on "The concepts of Lasya and Tandava in the classical dances of South India - A detailed Study". She was also awarded a post doctoral Research Fellowship from the University of Surrey.
With equal academic brilliance and a very successful performance career, today Dr Neena Prasad is one of the top five Mohiniyattam artistes in the world!

She is training a number of students.

And she has to face this humiliation in her own state!

Really sad!
This Pasha guy has an illustrious history of being an asshloe it seems! He gave a triple Talaq to his wife.

Wasn't this abolished?! How the hell did he get around this?!

Kerala is full of such idiots sitting in very important positions and public offices.

Imagine the damage being done! In so many ways!!

Won't be long before we have #KeralaFiles around!

Will @ShashiTharoor and the likes raise their voice now?!
The British Raj had banned Mohiniyattam in 1931. It was cultural activists like the great poet Vallathol who fought for the rights of artistes and established the Kerala Kalamandalam. They have trained hundreds of dancers over the decades.
Today, Kerala is filled with Mohamm@dean bigots occupying high offices who bully the system and get everything their way. They have the support of the establishment

The LeLis and those suffering from seculariasis will not open their mouths now!

Arts and culture suffer.
Hundreds of musicians and dancers have already been suffering without any performances because of the dreaded virus over the last two years. It is only recently that live performances have restarted.

And now eminent artistes like Neena have to deal with such asshloes!
For those who can read Malayalam, Neena has shared her experience here.

This Pasha fellow must be punished! No compromise!

😡😡😡
Which @IndianExpress is this?! @NewIndianXpress ?!

How come you haven't named that judge?! What are you trying to hide here? Or what are you trying to prove?! What sort of garbage reporting is this?!

Stop making a fool of yourself!

Hot topic in a WhatsApp group. I personally think the temple did the right thing. Here is a senior aware of his responsibilities. With a Mohammadean woman at home, & several questions about the sanctity of an ancient ritual that cannot be compromised! Temple taking no chances!
It is his mistake if he couldn't bring up his son in a better way! Yes, irresponsible son should have known the repercussions of this! He is free to do whatever.

Don't talk about Secularism now. Keep it outside our temples and rituals. Certain things cannot be compromised with.
You may call them "Trads" or whatever in your hi-fi language. It doesn't matter.

If you are ritually unfit for something, you have no business there, especially if you claim to be coming from a lineage. We have seen several such lineages break because of someone's negligence.

Auspicious day today! The Thirunakshatram of Sri Kulasekhara Azhwar, the king among Azhwars and the birthday of the poet saint Sri Atukuri Molla, two great Bhakthas, whose works continue to inspire us even today!

A short thread. 😀🙏
Kulasekhara Azhwar hailed from the royal lineage of Travancore. A wealthy king with a huge army & admin, and a great poet and a devotee. He authored the fantastic 'Mukunda Maala' in Sanskrit. He visited Srirangam and Tirupathi. Fell in love with the lord of the seven hills!
He was so engrossed in devotion to Lord Venkateshwara, that he wished if he had a rebirth, be wanted to be a plant or stone or dust on the seven hills. Perumal granted him his wish. The threshold into the innermost sanctum in Tirupathi is called Kulasekhara Padi in his honour.😀

As someone said "Ab Ki Baar, Antim Sanskaar!"

The annual #Panguni Utsavams have commenced in #Srirangam. Yesterday evening, the Purappadu of Viswaksenar happened. He goes around the Maada veedhis to inspect if everything is ok. Today onwards Namperumal with Ubhaya Nachiyar is taken in a procession.

Will do a thread. 😀🙏
The dreaded Chniese Vrius had attacked just before the Panguni Utsavams last time. And for two years, everything was conducted within the temple premises. The residents of Srirangam have been eagerly waiting for two years now!

Finally this year they are happening, like before!😀
Earlier this morning, before sunrise, the Dhwajaarohana Mahotsavam happened. Sharing images and videos as received.

A day out with the nonagenarian Muthukannammal, the last of the traditional dancers of the Viralimalai Murugan temple. The original Kurathi of the famous Viralimalai Kuravanji!

Her name was announced for the Padma Shri award by the President of India, few weeks ago.

🤩🙏🤩
I was visiting her and this place after close to two decades! And what a phenomenal memory she has!! She could recollect so much from the last time!

So much laughter, music, dance, history, raunchy jokes and her old world social graces!

Superbly exciting day! Lots to tell!
🤩🙏
I showed her the image of hers I had taken some nineteen years ago! A young Muthukannammal had performed Abhinayam to a Dikshitar's Nottuswaram for us, then. She could recollect everything from memory!

Even now she has a sharp memory and perfect eyesight!

What a woman! 🤩🙏

Something extraordinary is happening in Hyderabad. A giant statue of Saint Shri Ramanujacharya who propounded the Visishtadvaita philosophy has been set up. Today the Prime Minister of India, Shri @narendramodi ji will do Lokaarpanam.

A short thread on what it might signify. 🙏
The statue and complex around it looks damn impressive! It has miniature shrines to all the Divyadesams. Veda Patashalas, Yagashalas, Gaushalas and so forth.

Certainly a huge huge commendable feat achieved!

🙏😀🙏😀
I am not going into the biographical details of the Saint. They are well known and readily available. What is more important is Telugus reclaiming him. Yes, he was of Telugu ancestry in his Poorvashramam. His Inti peru was Aasuri. His father was Keshava Somayajulu. 🙏😀
