THREAD| Over the last three weeks #Russian Orthodox #Church has been consistently mentioning #Ukraine in its news stories. Let's have a look at the key narratives spread by the Church regarding the Russian invasion. What they say and what they mean:
🗣 We must do everything to prevent the enemy from destroying our spiritual unity, around which the religious and cultural life of our united people, Russians and Ukrainians, was formed
💬 We must reunite a Russian Empire, if not peacefully then by force /1
🗣 We should be careful not only to assess the information that is being disseminated, but also be extremely attentive to your own statements about recent events
💬 Be careful with what you say, consequences might follow /2
🗣 We should pray for the unity of Holy Rus
💬 Let’s hide our neo-imperialist tendencies and lie to ourselves that Ukrainians actually want to be part of us /3
🗣 This is the historical and God's truth
💬 Nevermind the lies and illogical statements, just sincerely believe in what authorities say /4
🗣 There are many lies on the Internet that can arouse negative feelings in people, hinder the speedy resolution of the conflict and reconciliation
💬 Just ignore all the evidence presented to you that shows how people are killed and tortured. Calm down and wait /5
⚡ All of the statements could be found on the official website of Moscow Patriarchate: patriarchia.ru

Russian invasion is not only unethical but insidious. Tons of disinformation, fake videos, and photos are shared to justify this bloody and unjust war. Here is why lies that seem obviously propagandistic for the whole world work in Russia and on the occupied territories: ⬇️
🔷 Kremlin propagandists started priming the information environment for this invasion since Ukraine got its independence and have recently just reinforced this rhetoric which makes disinformation more powerful than it seems.
🔶 The Kremlin has been making surveys in the Eastern territories of Ukraine to understand what polarises people and how to best exploit their divisions to ‘divide and rule’.
