Update on afternoon convoy: Earlier this week, @ottawapolice was advised of a vehicle-based demonstration from Quebec intending on making symbolic passage through Ottawa and then proceeding to an end destination in Vankleek Hill.
A restricted route (with no stopping or honking) was designated to expedite the safe passage of the convoy with community safety in mind. The route utilized truck routes to keep them rolling through #Ottawa.
We worked with our partners to implement multiple road closures with a strong police presence throughout the downtown core.
Convoy vehicles were directed away from entering any non-designated route in the downtown area (no access to ByWard Market, Lowertown, north of Laurier Avenue and other residential areas).
Strategies were in place for possible scenarios including towing, barriers and additional staffing.
We appreciate that this convoy was unwelcome for many residents and businesses. All legal authorities were examined or used in accordance with the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
The demonstration is now proceeding eastbound on Highway 417. Police continue to monitor the departure and all bridges, roads and intersections have re-opened. There are no incidents to report. #ottawa#otttraffic#ottnews

This past month, the people of Ottawa have faced immense disruptions, fear, and uncertainty due to the illegal occupation of our city. That was followed by significant changes in leadership, both at the Ottawa Police Services Board and within the Ottawa Police Service.
It is natural that questions are asked about the direction of the Ottawa Police, and it is important that we respond to those questions directly.
We are aware of a concerted effort to flood our 911 and non-emergency policing reporting line. This endangers lives and is completely unacceptable. (1/2)
It is a crime to unnecessarily call 911 or our non-emergency number (613-236-1222). We track calls and will charge anyone deliberately interfering with emergencies. (2/2)
OPSB Statement from Interim Chief Bell:
Overnight and throughout the day, residents are seeing a major increase in the number of police officers on our streets.
We have begun to erect barriers and fencing throughout the downtown core.
Only those with lawful reason to enter the core, such as residents, businesses and others with lawful reasons, will be allowed in the area
The unlawful protesters must leave the area and will not be provided access.
We know you have been through a lot and we are committed to returning your streets back normal.
We know that the increased police presence may be distressing to some. They are here to keep you safe and complete our mission.
