Today's Topic: Build the right profile
Have you heard the words “first impression matters!”? This is true almost everywhere, especially when you are an aspiring graduate student. Therefore, building the right profile before presenting them is very important.
2/n
Below are critical profiles you might need

1. Test Scores’ profile.
Though I am an advocate of #GREwaivers, I cannot underemphasize the importance of test scores. For instance, as an aspiring #engineering or #mathematical sciences graduate student, getting a GRE score
3/n
is like a highway to the #UnitedStates. If you are from a developing country, you could be educationally disadvantaged. Therefore, getting the #GRE, #TOEFL or #IELTS could be one way you could demonstrate your smartness. Stop looking for the easy way out. Take that EXAM.
4/n
Reach out if you need resources for any of these exams.
2. Social media profile
Academics increasingly populate social media, & they use this platform to recruit students. I have some tips for you. First, let your profile name and perhaps your handle be your real name.
5/n
What would the person you are reaching out to see as your name? As a recruiter, I would not even give attention to “sexygodess” or “badassGuy”, or “localBullet”, etc. When they reach out to me. Build an excellent #LinkedIn and #Twitter profile. You know I am talking to you😂
6/n
There are a lot of videos & articles on Google, YouTube & LinkedIn that explains how to develop a professional social media handle.

3. Research/academic profile
You can build a research profile in several ways. If you’re still in school, collaborate with your #professors.
7/n
If you are a graduate, get a job or volunteer with research labs or organizations. Try not to leave any gap in your timeline where you were academically inactive. You can write review papers, take several short courses, attend conferences, present posters,
8/n
shadow researchers, publish your research work, get related job experience, etc. Whenever you have an improvement to your profile, please update it to your CV immediately.

4.The application trilogy profile
I have once twitted about this trilogy of scholarship applications.
9/n
These include the CV, SOP and Referee reports. You can find the tweet here.

Today's Title: Getting prepared
Nothing beats preparation. Most people that win one or more scholarships did not just stumble on the opportunity; they prepared for it. According to Louis Pasteur: "Chance favours the prepared mind." How should you prepare for scholarships?
2/n
1. Google is your friend.
When you ask people to recommend scholarships for you, you forget that some google to figure it out for you. I understand that sometimes experience matters, but you can also learn. Today I know about so much funding available for grad school globally

HOW TO GET A FULLY FUNDED SCHOLARSHIP PART 1
Thanks for following and embracing this opportunity. In my first tweet in this series, I will be talking about how you build the right scholarship mindset. Unless your mind is ready, the journey to getting scholarships will be in vain.
Let’s understand the following:

1. No one can get a Scholarship for you other than you.

Never be entitled to people’s time and resources. You should be conscious that it is your scholarship journey and not theirs, therefore, appreciate every attention given to you.
Therefore, be polite when approaching people that have the information you desire.

Information you access is not power until you apply and learn in the process. Some aagencies mentor you into unlocking your capabilities; access them if you can afford it!

5. A commitment fee (#20,000)- This is refundable if you complete all tasks.
Please hold us responsible and call out our names if we don't refund your money after completing all the scholarship tasks. We are doing this to have a serious audience who knows what it's at stake. This group is NOT for everyone and it is NEVER COMPULSORY to join.

Scholarships are moving to social media. Many of you don't get replies because of how you are presented. A lot of my #mentees have grabbed their scholarship s on social media. Two important apps you must have is #Twitter and #Linkedin.
How can you benefit from this?
1. Make your profile name catchy!! First impression last longer. All those "sexy dollie" "fine tohbe" etc profile names. Na wa o. How does that present you?

🥞Use your legal names!!!
🥞Get a sweet handle
🥞Write a small profile summary and highlight your education too
2. What's your profile picture? My dear, some profile picture reminds me of the sentence "na only you waka come?

Use a nice casual or smart profile picture. Do you know I got to know about my school via Twitter? and I am here now.

Mimic the profile of mentors and do yours

What has Nigeria done for me? RT

A funny question I always hear from people especially #Mentees. Today, let me clarify somethings setting myself as an example.

1. Nigeria gave me the cheapest education I have accessed at the tertiary level.
I can only imagine being in the same class with people who attended prime institutions whose tuition for a year can pay the tuition of 10-20 kids like me in Nigeria.
We all had similar chances,
what did you do with yours? While I agree that the standards are different, did you accept the "School an Scam" gospel or work hard to make sure the struggle counts?

As for me, I made it count and had a 4.76 bachelors and a 5.0 Masters all from #FUTO. I am now global!!!
