/ Ukrainian Theater of War, Day 33: Todays update briefly focuses on Kyiv. Ukrainian forces continue to make important gains; however, the Russians are putting up stiff resistance of their own to hold on to gains made so far. #UkraineRussiaWar#UkraineUnderAttack#Ukraine️
/ Humanitarian Impact. Refugees in various European countries exceeds 5.1 million, with over 6.5 million IDPs throughout Ukraine. Illness, mental breakdown, starvation area a few of the condition’s civilians suffer in occupied and contested areas.
/ Weather assessment. Forecasted rain and wintery mix for 5 of the next 10 days will continue to adversely affect aerospace and ground operations, potentially slowing down offensive momentum in the Kyiv area. Temperatures generally will remain between 16/-1 C.
/ Kyiv Front. The loss of Irpin is a severe blow to Russian forces in NW Kyiv and a significant victory for Ukrainian forces. The inability of Russian forces to hold this key terrain shows they are not capable of new offensive operations in NW Kyiv for the foreseeable future.
/ Kyiv AO. Ukraine will continue to press their counterattacks in the Kyiv area, taking advantage of Russian forces rotating out of the area for refit & reorganization. Russia will not seek to encircle Kyiv, but it will continue operations here to fix Ukrainian forces. #KyivNow
/ Cyber War. Ukrainian internet provider Uktelecom confirms cyber-attack on its core infrastructure. This attack was most likely an attempt to disrupt internet services & telecommunications on a national scale. The attack was repulsed, and services have generally been restored.
/ Aerospace Assessment. Kyiv’s IADs remains effective and can interdict incoming missile attacks. Russian air & artillery strikes damage power lines in west Kyiv, causing a partial black out. Air strikes intensify over Chernihiv. t.me/dsns_telegram/…
/ Battle Damage Assessment. Ukrainian General Staff reports 17x aerial targets have been destroyed in the past 24 hrs. to include 8x planes, 4x UAVs, 3x helicopters, and 2x cruise missiles. Russian patrols remain vulnerable to effective ambushes.
/ Peace Negotiations. Russia continues to modify its original war aims to better align with what it can compel with military forces. Russia apparently no longer demands “denazification” and that it will not oppose Ukraine EU membership.
/ Ukraine has hard choices to make when it comes to negotiating a settlement to end the war. One thing both sides seem not ready to concede is the future political status of the Donbas. It is possible a ceasefire may be reached in the coming weeks, only to refreeze the conflict
/ If a prolonged ceasefire holds it would present opportunities and dangers for both Russia and Ukraine, though the danger may be greater for Ukraine. A refrozen conflict of any prolonged period would give Russia the time it needs to truly reorganize itself militarily.
/ There is a good chance Russia is not negotiating in true faith and will use this process to buy time to build the resources it needs to more securely hold the Donbas and Kherson Oblast to impose a revived Novorossiya Project on the region, compelling Ukrainian acceptance.
/ These maps have been created by me based off the most reliable information of activity in the Ukrainian Theater of War from a variety of sources. Errors will be corrected as soon as they are identified.
/ Information regarding Ukrainian units are meant to be general, are based on Ukrainian General Staff statements and social media posts, official Ukrainian government press releases, and local news. It does not depict current unit movements.
