1/7 On 15 March 2022 the Akimat (local executive body) of #Almaty refused to authorise the peaceful rally set for 19 March 2022 in response to notifications sent by activists Marat #TURYMBETOV and Daulet #ABILKASYMOV.
3/7 The politically motivated refusal was signed by deputy manager of the Department of Public Development of Almaty #YESENBEKOV A.
4/7 The authorities did not offer any alternative place to hold the anti-war rally which indicates that the Kazakhstani authorities are supporting President PUTIN in his war against Ukraine. Activist Alnur #ILYASHEV commented on the Akimat's refusal to approve the rally:
5/7 In total, over the period from 30 July 2020 to 18 March 2022 the human rights defenders of the "ActivistsNotExtremists" monitoring group ⤵️
6/7 documented 212 refusals by the authorities to approve peaceful protests, rallies, and single person pickets (in 22 cities and localities) 2 out of these 212 refusals took place in 2022.

Civil activist and father of two children Orynbai #OKHASSOV has been politically prosecuted since 2016 for his participation in peaceful protests and criticism of the Kazakhstani authorities.
3/4 In November 2021 Orynbai OKHASSOV was sentenced to 1 year of restriction of liberty for allegedly "participating in the activities of an extremist organisation".

Below is the witness testimony of the nurse Fatima #GAZIZ on how she was politically persecuted by the Kazakhstani authorities, including through her employer, for her participation in the peaceful protest on 5 January 2022.

On 5 January 2022 Fatima Gaziz took part in the peaceful protest in Aktobe, near the Akimat (local executive body), to demonstrate her stance on the situation in the country, e.g. increase of prices and living standards.
3/6 Policemen, located near the Akimat, attacked the protesters using stun grenades. Fatima GAZIZ was wounded and some people took her to the hospital where she stayed for 7 days.

❗️29-year-old Sayat #ADILBEKULY was shot in the leg on 5 January when he was walking toward the Central Pharmacy in Almaty. His life was saved, and he underwent kidney surgery.
3/6 The SOBR officers (Special Rapid Response Unit) illegally took more than 30 wounded people (there were also critically wounded patients among them) from the hospital.
On 17 March 2022, the host of Russian news channel TV Rain (Dozhd channel) Anna #Mongayt reported that the office manager of TV Rain and eight other Russians who were staying at the same hotel 👇
2/6 with her in Kazakhstan were deported to Russia as “undesirable”. There is a risk that they could be subjected to reprisals in Russia. Their names are not known. We are calling to share the names if known.
3/6 TOKAYEV, in his message of 16 March 2022, said that the media must be free. The authorities have repeatedly stated that they adhere to international human rights obligations.

NURKANOVA Gulmira, the wife of civil activist #NURKANOV Ruslan, told about the arbitrary detention of her husband in connection with the January events.
2/6 On 5 January 2022 at noon employees of the probation service spied on Ruslan and detained him when he went outside. He was tried in the Police Department and sentenced to administrative arrest under Article 488.
3/6 On 10 January 2022 Ruslan was released from the temporary detention facility on Stakhanov Street and then taken to the Police Department of Ulan district.
