@CrisisGroup needs to get rid of @wdavison10. New podcast just dropped full of TPLF propaganda.

I can’t even. #AfarAttackDefensive #ShireArmsFlights #TigrayBlockade all the talking points.

podcasts.apple.com/fr/podcast/hol…
It even begins with an intro which misses out the TPLF attack on the #NorthernCommand which started the war calls from Davison for #WesternTigray to be returned.

If @EroComfort wants to be taken seriously @WillDavison10 and his baggage needs to removed from the theatre.
What @CrisisGroup needs to understand is that Will’s reckons are not even close to fair and balanced. Haven’t been for months, and perhaps that’s the reason they haven’t published anything for months.
Davison’s claims that TPLF has rearmed (by who?) and claims that TPLF’s forces withdrew largely intact are particularly incendiary in the current context. I had dismissed the reports of Sudan Shire flights as disinformation but I could be wrong. But if true this is very bad news.
Another significant omission in Will’s reckons is the failure to mention of the 2nd of the three ceasefires by the GoE in this conflict, namely the FDRE announced ceasefire in December. Which was flouted immediately in Afar.
The authority with which Davison asserts that (at least 2) arms supply flights from unidentified “Antonovs” were made into Tigray, and subsequent remarks that these were of drone blocking technology, and remarks about Western Tigray being suitable for ENDF/Eritrean tank defence…
… begs questions about whether the arms brought in by the Antonovs were actually manpads and javelins. I.E. the arms being used in Ukraine. Raising additional questions about their origin.
In the final segment Davison’s stream of consciousness returns to Tigray. He talks about “cautious optimism” on the humanitarian front requiring TPLF to withdraw from “pockets” of Amhara and Afar that they are occupying. “Pockets” is a weird word for the massive afar occupation.
And as we get to the end we discover that there is also no mention of the #s3199 #hr6600 activity in the US congress. The absence of which is inexplicable.

At the close @atwoodr goes into a discursive comparison between Ukraine and Ethiopia.
In this final segment Russia’s offensive in Ukraine is even compared to the “defacto blockade” of Tigray.

@CrisisGroup appears to be all in with the TPLF. I can’t see much credibility in the HoA remaining after this.
The issues in Ethiopia are complex. But this is not an acceptable way to cover what was even acknowledged by @willdavison10 as probably the most lethal war in the world in 2021. Which it was.
If Davison is right about arms shipments to Tigray of sophisticated new weapons tech - and he’s certainly confirmed this as far as Western policy makers in the @crisisgroup client list are concerned - the implications are nothing short of horrific.
Final comment: Here is why @WillDavison10’s analysis is so terrible.

Like his @CrisisGroup HoA alumni @dibjir and @rabdianalyst their fellow travelers incl. the @bbc’s Martin Plaut and @TuftsUniversity’s Alex de Waal - Will’s focus is on military maneuvers rather than context.
Much of the coverage of Ukraine - especially that in US cable TV media - has the same flaw. Earlier in the War Davison’s constant refrain in @CrisisGroup podcasts was to call for a national dialogue.
But when it actually happened the National Dialogue received no real coverage, from @CrisisGroup @Willdavison10 or anyone else.

Peace building is called “building” because it requires careful quality construction. But maybe this isn’t what the audience of @CrisisGroup wants.

With development underway of another potential cyclone near New Caledonia, NZ may get yet another #ExtremeWeather tropical driven weather event this cyclone season.

This animation shows a 10 day rain forecast with the impact of the potential storm arriving at the end on 13/4.
Here's a 24 satellite loop of the storm in question (currently Invest #99p) which has been meandering north of New Caledonia, and becoming increasingly organised.
Another view of the storm this time of IR satellite imagery which shows convective bands developing around the rotation.

After a lengthy period of relative quiet @wdavison10 has popped up in a new and truly terrible #HoldYourFire podcast on the conflict in Northern Ethiopia hosted the usually insightful @atwoodr, one which reflects very poorly on @CrisisGroup.
The podcast comes just 2 days after TPLF conducted an online campaign against @CrisisGroup’s @Meron_El issuing an open letter to raise their grievances.
Whilst we can’t necessarily connect these two events, the podcast is not up to @atwoodr’s usual standards and is a bit loose and stream of consciousness at times.

It’s also incendiary in the context of current domestic politics in Ethiopia. An odd approach to peace building.

This very interesting @France24 #F24Debate show was just broadcast live here in France and provides a fascinating insight into just how much of a global energy and financial crisis the #RussiaUkraineWar has now become.
This @StateDept briefing has just finished. First substantive questions (not addressing the readout address in international response specifically #Quad member India (from @apdiplowriter) and the US's UAE and Saudi allies (@AndreaMitchell of @CNN)
. @StateDeptSpox does his best to remain bullish on Russian isolation, but it is far from convincing. No doubt there will be more calls from sanction hawk Senators & Representatives for secondary sanctions.

Vladimir Putin says he is going to cut off gas to Europe, complaining that its European customers have bought oil and gas in Europe and paid for them in frozen Euros.

Possibly starting tomorrow.

Putin says EU gas buyers will need ruble accounts in Russia
Meanwhile there is also speculation that India could play an intermediary role to facilitate trade in Russian oil and gas and/or play a role in peace mediation. Not that Indian commentators think this is very likely mind.
Across the pond the US President has announced that it will tap its strategic oil reserve, albeit only to provide relief for Americans over gas prices - which he is calling the "Putin price-hike", and a return to American energy independence. (17 mins in)

The west is rash to assume the world is on its side over Ukraine - Financial Times.

@EdwardGLuce⁩ of ⁦@Morning_Joe⁩ fame. ⁦Methinks @morningmika⁩ may have some issues with this take. ft.com/content/d7baed…
And I think Ed may have overshot. The issue is not about being on one side or another so much is it is about being against chaos.

People are on the side of:
1. Peace in Ukraine
2. Lower fuel prices
3. Less inflation
4. No food crisis
5. No financial warfare
6. No nuclear war
People are scared and frightened with good reason and politicians are a) people and b) aware of the dangers of heightened fear and anxiety politically.

I expect a poll would find 99.99%+ of the human population wants this war to end as soon as possible.

Well if the TPLF’s inner core bought and paid for propagandists are complaining, @CrisisGroup must be doing at least a half decent job.

@EroComfort @wdavison10

Meron Elias gets two thumbs up.
This tweet is one of two citations in @TghatMedia’s open letter of supposed “evidence” adduced against @Meron_El

Compiled by @zeaxumawit who is affiliated with @OmnaTigray the outfit that spearheaded the information operations for TPLF at the outset of the war.
