I am getting weary of reading articles in which Americans advise other Americans about how to negotiate the future of #Ukraine. (Thread) 1/ #WestSplaining
We are not fighting in Ukraine, and so we do not decide when the fighting stops, or on what terms. 2/ #UkraineWar#RussianUkrainianWar
This war would have been avoided had #Russia treated #Ukraine as a sovereign state, and negotiated with it. 3/
Instead Putin refused to speak to Ukrainian leaders, presented them as vassals, denied the existence of their country, and invaded. 4/
Ukraine's great achievement in this war has been to establish its existence and its sovereignty before the world, and even to the Russians. 5/
Now it is taken for granted, even in Moscow, that this Ukrainian government will represent this Ukrainian state in future negotiations. 6/
When Americans speak to other Americans about what #Ukraine must do, we are heedlessly negating Ukrainian sovereignty. 7/
Let us not deny who Ukrainians are and what Ukrainians have achieved. 8/8

1/30 Putin is responsible for the invasion, and must redistribute blame for its failure. After a month, some vectors of discord in the Russian government have suggested themselves. (Thread)
2/30 I summarize here from open sources certain unusual features of this war. These are odd facts that would seem to suggest prior, or provoke future, dissension among Russian leaders. I draw no conclusions, and will at most suggest where to look.
3/30 Putin is the supreme leader. The invasion of Ukraine was predicated on his idea that there was no Ukrainian state or nation. His views are widely repeated, though perhaps not as widely shared. They were immediately proven wrong.
2/8. A number of American cities have sister cities in #Ukraine, where people have been attacked by or are threatened by the Russian army.
3/8. Mayors and civic leaders in all of those American cities should be organizing campaigns of assistance. What else can "sister city" mean if not a willingness to help? #SisterCitiesforUkraine#StandWithUkraine
0/6 FAQ about my new #Ukraine audiobook (On Tyranny: Expanded Audio Edition)
1/6 Will the new Ukraine audiobook be available in print?
There is no text. I wasn't reading. I was speaking to you. I did this very quickly, from notes, in the form of twenty conversational lectures, sometimes ambitious intellectually, sometimes intimate and close.
2/6 Will the audiobook be available in the UK/other countries?
The audiobook will be available in the US, Canada and select other countries on April 19. There isn't yet but might be a UK edition. I guess it might depend on how many people ask that question.

1/14 My six books about #Ukraine. I am called upon to answer questions about Ukraine every day. My books, which represent a quarter century of research and thought, often do a better job than I can while speaking live or in short pieces.
2/14 I don't often mention my books on Ukraine, because I feel uneasy promoting things that cost money while people in Ukraine are suffering and dying in this horrible unjustifiable invasion. I will continue to make meaningful donations to Ukraine. If you can, I hope you will too
3/14 My book that is most immediately relevant to the Russian invasion of Ukraine is "The Road to Unfreedom: Russia, Europe, America." It is a history of the 2010s that links Russia's first invasion of Ukraine (2014) to its interference in US elections (2016).
