Fun throwback to concept pieces for the #RadiantCitadel!

The first is the very first sketch ever drawn of the Radiant Citadel, done by @the_strix while I rambled at her after inspiration hit me while I was in bed reading. We jammed for hours on it.

I have lots of notes from that first conversation--here is a small taste: "This is the central location of [redacted], and it is a place of trade, diplomacy, learning, and mystery. The current occupants don't know where it came from but have occupied it and learned to use it."
"There are 15 mini-floating island-buildings. Each has a single building that is [redacted] corresponds to 1 of the 15 locations. Below the base-level of the central island-city will be a protruding gemstone geode that corresponds to one of the 15 locations."
"Those protruding mix of 15 geode gemstones corresponding to each of the 15 locations is where the mini-islands dock. But do they dock or teleport people/goods inside? Maybe when they all dock they form a pangea."
"Think of all of these as sort of airships meets floating-cities. But not quite as large as a floating city. While the main center basically always stays afloat, the smaller ones go back and forth to the corresponding Location for trade/diplomacy."
"They can land on the ground [redacted], and conduct trade/diplomacy/adventuring base. They pick up goods and bring it back to the central city, then sell/buy from there, and ship it via another floating island to another Location."
"And the main floating city ties to [redacted]. A little bit of inspiration for this comes from Nalanada."

Obviously, much has changed from that initial concept jam, but also a lot of the genesis was in that first burst of inspiration and conversation.
As for the Concord Jewels, the two images attached are how I envision two of the Jewels looking in shape, if not color. Each Concord Jewel has a unique shape, even if they work exactly the same.

This creates a stunning, luminescent constellation of Jewels orbiting the Citadel.
Anyway, hope this was an enjoyable sneak-peek into the original conversation and genesis of the Radiant Citadel!
Oh, to add: Creating the Radiant Citadel in its final form was a months-long process. It was little putting pieces of a puzzle together, forming a whole. Everything had to make sense to me, including its origins, and purpose.
While not everything is spelled out in the book--both for reasons that are an ongoing thread in various books but also so DMs have more flexibility about how to use the Citadel--I had to know why, where, how, etc for the Citadel. I wanted everything to make sense, even the weird.

More seriously, why would a journalist put any effort into reporting at this pay rate? Spending more than 1 hour on the piece (including the initial research/interview/whatever + writing + editing/drafts) makes no sense at this rate. This incentivizes zero work and bad stories.
The only thing even vaguely worth trying at this pay rate would be an off-the-cuff single-draft opinion piece. And god knows, we have ENOUGH zero researched opinion pieces in the ether.
Okay, apparently, they do offer better rates and this thread clarifies.

I'd like to share some thoughts I had on storytelling in Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel and how it might differ a little from other books. This thread should also give some insights into the process of how we made the book.

On one side, we have great adventure paths that take you through an entire storyline to a final culmination and Big Bad. There are a lot of great ones and a favorite of mine for 5E is Curse of Strahd. These usually have a tight throughline—they’re like a movie or novel.
On the flip side are adventure anthologies that may share some thematic elements, but aren’t really linked or connected. They may even have been developed at totally different times, like the adventures in Tales of the Yawning Portal. They're a tv series like the Twilight Zone.

Throwback to the 80s. Mom, Dad, my little brother Vivek, my uncle Rajan who passed away last year and who I miss dearly, another uncle from India who I didn't know well, and me and my huge moppy head of curls. Image
I THINK I was wearing the soccer jersey of the team I played on back then. Wow, I totally forgot the team's name until I saw this photo. But it looks like I was either coming back or about to go to a soccer game/practice. My Dad was the coach. And we had an undefeated season.
Much of my tenacity, I learned from my parents. Both, in their own ways, have enormous drive, tenacity, and the ability to endure a lot of hardship. Really, I could say that about a lot of my family. They shaped me.

I am going to briefly weigh in on the controversy around a missing credit in Strixhaven, but also talk about missing credits in general and attacking devs in bad faith.
Credits are missed in work for both big & small companies & products on a regular basis. It happens regularly & in most cases, it’s not a bad faith action. It’s a genuine mistake, often a product of harried processes & tight deadlines.

It also happens everywhere, not just games.
It’s happened to to me more times than I can count. If folks had ANY idea of the amount of work I have contributed to in and out of games I have not been credited for, their minds would be blown!

Add to that the persistent level of typos, misspellings, etc in credits.

Also, it's not just the fact that Swordsfall had directed dogpiling on a whim or made accusations of you being anti-Black if you disagreed with them (as if they were somehow the beacon of all things Black), it's that pocs usually hate getting into it with each other in public.
Everything about them screamed narcissist, cult of personality, con artist, and bad actor. There was also a cruelty about them--how they spoke of others with such ugliness, even folks who'd been allies and uplifted them into the public light.
But until folks came out with receipts, we were silent because it's 1 step forward, 10 steps backward in fighting for poc recognition. And there were a LOT of white folks who had glommed onto them as if supporting this one Black creator absolved them of all their white guilt.

Okay, here are some thoughts on Dune. I am not sure if anything I'll talk about is actually a spoiler, or if that matters since the book and various incarnations have been out forever. But proceed at your own discretion.
Also, I don't want to go deeply into Dune 2021 vs Dune 1984, though I'll talk about the two in relation. Mostly, because they're two very different things. I love Dune 2021 and I do really like Dune 1984. One does not take away from the other. It's okay to like them both. Really.
So first, I want to talk about emotions in Dune 2021, because I've heard some critics and even some viewers say that Dune 2021 was emotionally "cold" or some variation on the idea that it didn't have powerful emotional beats.
