THREAD: Another #Hinduphobic racist, xenophobic rant-this time by #AmyWax. Shame on @TuckerCarlson & @FoxNews for platforming such individuals. She is being sanctioned by @pennlaw. But, notice how similar she sounds to some "South Asian Scholars" who also target Hindus. @Penn 1/n
Brown & Asian faces (even those born or raised in USA) who raise concerns around racism & prejudice are marked as "foreigners" and "immigrants" and apparently not fit to be Americans! A stark reminder of the anti-Asian xenophobia present even today on both sides of the aisle. 2/n
@TuckerCarlson then says "...they have a freaking caste system...", which once again paints Hindus and Indian Americans as the oppressors by default - as if they carry "caste oppression" as part of their DNA and transfer it genetically to the next gen. 3/n
The above "caste" argument is learned via textbooks based on a racist, colonial narrative on Hinduism, which essentially leads to the conclusion that Hinduism = caste = oppression. Here is a picture of a school textbook and lesson in America. 4/n
In Nov 2021, we saw this same argument by a Silicon Valley executive, who claimed to value diversity. Yet she called Indian Americans "parasites" and asked them to "stop turning America into a caste/apartheid system that you came from." 5/n
Wax shockingly claims "Brahmin women" who lead the charge against racism are taught to discriminate since childhood. So, to be a Brahmin Hindu automatically means one has been groomed to discriminate - a vilification similar to "caste" policies at @CalPoly@ucdavis . 6/n
For those who feel these are one-off situations, we direct your attention to a similar rant from right wing commentator Anne Coulter who similarly channeled her "inner Audrey Truschke" WRT Hindus. 7/n
The "Dismantling Global Hindutva" conference also singled out, targeted five Brahmin Hindu last names, called them purveyors of violence. Thus, it is easy to parallels between the Hinduphobic venom coming from the "South Asian" scholars & these racist xenophobes. 8/n
The new @Twitter CEO was also wrongly attacked for being a Brahmin by Equality Labs (a great example of the blind hatred against successful Hindu Americans). Also an example of the blatantly false information peddled by the so called "caste" experts. 9/n
The argument then summarized: 1. Brown/Hindus/Indians --> from "shithole country" with a "caste system". Are taught to discriminate from birth. 2. Those who raise concerns about racism should just shut up because they have escaped from "shitholes" to come here.
10/n
The calls for us practicing Hindus to be quiet and fall in line with prevailing thought comes from extremists on both the Left and the Right. We are calling out #Hinduphobia, and will continue to do so, not matter where it emanates from. 11/n

THREAD: “US-based Hindu Right” is a dog whistle used to target Hindu students, parents, community members who express genuine concerns about how “South Asian Scholars” espouse bigoted views and biased scholarship on Hinduism. 1/n
These scholars make broad brushed and Hinduphobic comments and malign an entire religion and community based on faulty data, racist colonial views. When questioned or countered, they “cry Hindutva” and attack Hindus by denying them a voice and painting them as “extremists.” 2/n
Though they are “South Asian Scholars” they ONLY target Hinduism and India as the source of all sorts of evils (e.g. “Casteism,”patriarchy, oppression, Sati, etc.) while other South Asian religions, nations and communities are spared of the hate. 3/n
A great article summarizing the fake construction of “caste” in California, the inherent unfairness of how such policies were created + the impact on day-to-day life of Hindu American students & technology workers. #Caste#HinduAmericans#CasteInTechindiacurrents.com/constructing-c… 1/n
Article calls out flawed data used, even as a June 2021 study by @CarnegieEndow found majority of Indian Americans did NOT identify themselves with caste at all. 24% denied ANY knowledge of caste in their networks. No evidence for significant caste-based discrimination in US. 2/n
OF NOTE: fears of the CSU students we at CoHNA are helping-who now worry about hosting events, catering vegetarian food, or even celebrating beloved festivals like Holi & Diwali – since both have been called violent/casteist by the same activist groups driving caste policies 3/n
THREAD: The Whirling Log is the equivalent of the Swastika among Native Americans and First Nation people. Here is an early 20th century drum used by the Pueblo people containing the Whirling Log symbols. Why did many (sadly) stop using it? 1/n
Whirling Log is a very sacred symbol for these indigenous communities. A good article describing the importance (note to read “Whirling Log” where the word “Swastika” is used because Swastika is a Sanskrit word used by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains only. 2/n adobegallery.com/art/rare-zia-s…
Unfortunately, due to continued misunderstanding about their sacred symbols, these communities face opposition even for celebrating their art. Something that Hindus, Buddhists and Jains can empathize with. 3/n sltrib.com/news/2017/08/2…
Wrapping up the "caste" panel, we hear powerful words from Dalit Activist and Senior CoHNA Member, Aldrin Deepak, who has lived and worked in the Bay Area for decades. #BreakingIndiaADecadeLater 1/n
“None of my Hindu friends have ever asked me about caste. The Cisco case is where I HAD to come out as a #Dalit” -Aldrin Deepak #BreakingIndiaADecadeLater 2/n
“Has oppression happened? Yes. But it has nothing to do with what is happening in America. Why has this become center-stage in California?” -Aldrin Deepak "Dalit discrimination is nothing but hatred toward “minorities of minorities." #BreakingIndiaADecadeLate 3/n
Our Caste panel now features Dalit Researcher and Activist, Prerna Thiruvaipati, who is a voice for Dalit communities in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana @PrernaThiruvaip. #BreakingIndiaADecadeLater
Our next speaker, Pt. Satish Sharma, author of "Caste, Conversion A Colonial Conspiracy: What Every Hindu and Christian must know about Caste", delves into history & contemporary culture to lay out the history of how this narrative was first created #BreakingIndiaADecadeLater
