Thanks to research published by @wwf_uk and the RSPB, the UK is now set to introduce laws requiring companies to prove that their products are not driving illegal deforestation in other countries! #Thread
Our research with @wwf_uk revealed a 15% growth in the UK’s overseas land footprint compared to 2011-2015. But what is a ‘land footprint’?
Land footprint is the term used to describe the amount of land used by an organisation or country, or to create a product. For example, cows require land to graze on in the UK, but a land footprint will also include the space used to grow their feed, even if it’s abroad!
It's #BatAppreciationDay! We have 18 species in the UK, including the pipistrelle in this picture! Bats get a bad rap, but did you know they're actually really important?! #Thread👇👇
1. They're pest controllers! All bats in the UK only eat insects, and they eat thousands of them every night!
2. They help us track changes in biodiversity! In the UK, some bats are used as in 'indicator species' by DEFRA to help measure targets around the population size of important species or the area of land managed for wildlife.
